This provision is good
The childminder uses her childcare qualification and experience well to ensure she understands how the young children in her care develop and learn. She plans and provides varied and imaginative learning experiences for children, who make consistently good progress in their learning. The childminder provides a welcoming and stimulating homely environment for children. They freely choose from the good range of accessible resources which supports their play and learning well. Children listen to the childminder and behave well. They learn to share and take turns through the childminder's gentle reminders and encouragement. The childminder manages children's behaviour appropriately to reflect their age and understanding. The childminder promotes a healthy lifestyle. Children benefit from opportunities to be active outdoors and from eating a range of healthy snacks and meals.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's strategies for involving parents in their children's ongoing learning are not fully successful to extend children's progress even further. Although the childminder gathers information from parents about children's care needs and interests when they first start, she does not gather enough information about their prior learning, to ensure effective initial planning of activities.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents gathered through the written feedback provided. The inspector viewed all areas of the setting used for childminding. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, including children's records and the childminder's policies.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder continually reflects on her practice and identifies areas that she would like to develop even further. She has made good improvements to address the recommendations raised at her last inspection. The childminder is committed to the ongoing improvement of her practice and is currently undertaking a masters degree to enhance her practice further. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the possible indicators of abuse. She has a secure knowledge of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder completes daily checks and clear risk assessments of the premises, which help to promote children's safety. Parents' written testimonies show they are happy with the service she provides and of the good progress their children make. The childminder monitors her assistants well through supervision and appraisals. She supports them in

attending regular training, such as safeguarding and first aid, to ensure they can meet children's needs well and develop their skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes good use of the observations of children's play to plan further experiences that help them achieve their next steps in learning. She completes regular and precise assessments of what children can do. The childminder uses these to effectively monitor their progress and identify any gaps in their learning. Children receive good support and remain engaged and motivated in their play. For example, they concentrate well and show good spatial awareness and perseverance as they carefully pour water from the toy teapot to the cup. The childminder communicates and interacts well with children during their play, helping them to develop good language and social skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children learn how to be safe. For example, they take part in regular fire evacuations with the childminder and learn about road safety when out in the environment. Children know and understand the need to keep their play environment free from hazards. Unprompted, they pick toys up from the floor, and listen to and follow instructions from the childminder. Children are confident, play well together and are emotionally secure. Settling-in arrangements are successful in helping children to form secure attachments with the childminder. Parents share information about their children's individual care needs and routines when they first start. The childminder uses this information to help support children to settle and become familiar with their new environment.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn a wide range of skills and show readiness for the next stages of their learning and their eventual move on to school. They show good independence, for example, at mealtimes. They are inquisitive and maintain sustained interest in their play. Children show an interest in literacy as they handle and explore books and participate in a range of mark-making activities.
