This provision is good
The childminder has excellent risk assessment procedures in place. She is very vigilant and supervises children well. The childminder reinforces safety procedures with children and encourages them to develop an awareness of how to keep themselves safe. For instance, children talk about staying away from hot ovens during baking activities. Children have a good range of resources to make independent choices in their play. They invite others into pretend scenarios, generally, and immerse themselves into roles of different characters. For instance, children pretend to serve the childminder during their supermarket role play. This helps to promote children's imaginative skills. The childminder takes children on regular outings, including trips on public transport. She play games with them while looking out of the window. For instance, the childminder encourages children to identify different features of the environment. This

helps to promote children's understanding of their environment. Children demonstrate good communication skills. They talk confidently to the childminder and visitors. Children provide a narrative as they play.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder, on occasions, does not plan activities that provide children with even more challenge during play. The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to promote a more collaborative way of playing that builds on children's engagement during activities.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed an evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder demonstrates a good understanding of local safeguarding procedures. She knows how to respond to concerns about the welfare of a child. The childminder is proactive in seeking out further training. She completes training courses and uses this information to enhance outcomes for children. The childminder has used information gained from a course to strengthen her settling-in arrangements and identify anxiety in children. She reviews the overall quality of her provision and encourages children to share their ideas about what they would like to do. Parents provide regular feedback to the childminder through discussions and feedback forms. This helps to identify and address any gaps in her provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes regular observations and assessments of children's learning and identifies what they need to learn next. Children choose their favourite stories and share these with the childminder. They participate in glue and sticking activities and demonstrate a sense of pride in their own achievements when showing their completed work to others. This demonstrates good levels of self-esteem. Parents are very complimentary about the childminder and how she ensures their child's learning and emotional needs are well met. The childminder has established effective ways to involve parents and other early years providers in offering a consistent approach to children's learning. She regularly reviews children's progress and shares this information effectively.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are encouraged to follow good hygiene practices and develop good self-care skills. The childminder provides healthy choices during mealtimes and promotes opportunities for children to participate in physical exercise, including trips to the local park. This helps to promote their understanding of how to lead a healthy lifestyle. Children are very well settled. The childminder is very nurturing and children demonstrate close attachments to her.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children demonstrate good mathematical understanding. They count and identify colours and shapes during play. For instance, children count how many bun cases they need during baking activities. They complete puzzles and confidently identify the various colours. Children use various tools during dough activities. They carefully use plastic scissors and other equipment to create their various models. This helps to promote their creative development. Children are well equipped with the key skills needed for future learning and their eventual move to school.
