This provision is good
The well-qualified childminder has a secure understanding of how children learn and develop. She responds well to their individual needs. Children are happy and settled. They clearly enjoy spending time with the childminder. The childminder provides a welcoming and homely environment where children safely explore and become independent in their play. Children enjoy participating in a wide range of activities. The childminder provides a good balance of child-initiated and adult-led play. The childminder regularly reviews children's development to check that they are making good progress and plans effectively for their next steps in learning. The childminder establishes good relationships with parents from the start. She keeps them well informed about their child's day, including their progress and achievements. Children behave well. They learn to share, take turns and have good manners. The

childminder gives clear, consistent guidance and gentle reminders about her expectations for their behaviour.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always organise group activities well enough to enable younger children to be as fully involved in their learning as the older ones. Although the childminder has good partnerships with other settings children attend, she has not established effective ways to share information, to promote a consistent approach in their learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of how to keep children safe. She understands the procedures to follow in the event of a concern about a child in her care. The childminder supervises children well and carries out daily safety checks indoors and outside to ensure she eliminates risks. For example, she checks the garden to make sure that the ice on the patio has melted before allowing the children to play outside. The childminder is aware of what she does well and what she would like to improve. She maintains her own professional development by completing training to help keep up to date with current guidance and legislation. In addition, the childminder regularly meets with other childminders to discuss best practice and share ideas. She implements a range of policies and procedures to underpin her good practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children in her care well. She provides them with a wide range of resources that quickly captures their curiosity and helps them to develop a positive attitude towards learning. Children show good focus and high levels of concentration as they investigate a selection of coloured tubes which the childminder had decorated with numbers. The childminder joins in with their play to extend their learning. For example, she encourages them to solve problems together. They think out loud as they post small pompons into the tubes and then debate how to get them out. The childminder supports children's early literacy skills well. Children develop an awareness of words and their meaning as the childminder encourages them to look at books and enjoy stories. Young children excitedly explore activity toys that move and make a noise.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is caring and affectionate. Children demonstrate they have secure and trusting relationships with her. The childminder takes effective steps to ensure children learn about their own safety. She reminds them to be careful when going up and down the stairs to use the bathroom. The childminder teaches children about healthy lifestyles and good hygiene. Children enthusiastically sing the handwashing song as they wash their hands before lunch. Children enjoy regular trips to the park and shops with the childminder. They attend sessions at toddler groups, taking part in activities they cannot do at the childminder's home. For example, jumping and climbing on soft-play equipment, where they play and socialise with other children in the community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are making good progress. They are gaining the key skills that help to prepare them for the next stage of their learning and their eventual move on to school. Children are enthusiastic learners who confidently lead their own play. They count the toy cars as they place them in the garage. Children listen attentively at story time and follow instruction as they help to put out the plates for snack and lunch. They use crayons and pens to make marks on paper.
