This provision is good
The childminder accurately evaluates her practice. She identifies strengths and areas for improvement, with the help of parents and children. This helps her to quickly address any areas for improvement. The childminder thoughtfully considers how to improve her practice. For instance, she used training to assess children's progress more accurately. She knows how to identify and target gaps in children's learning and plan purposeful activities that help children achieve their next steps in their learning. All children make good progress. The childminder has a good understanding of how to risk assess to remove hazards. She promotes young children's safety at all times, while giving them opportunities to take manageable risks, such as climbing high on the climbing frame when they are ready. The childminder stays close by to supervise, while allowing children to explore and learn to manage risks. The childminder provides an environment that promotes children's physical

development and young children show strong physical coordination. For example, children learn to dress themselves from an early age.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder occasionally misses opportunities to help children to develop their language skills further while they play together. The childminder does not consistently share children's ongoing learning with parents, to best support children's learning between home and her setting.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

use every opportunity to help young children to learn new vocabulary during their play to help to develop their communication skills further strengthen partnerships with parents further by providing ways for them to receive and share information about their children's ongoing learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children playing together. The inspector and the childminder participated in a joint evaluation of an activity. The inspector reviewed a sample of documentation. The inspector took account of parents' feedback and children's experiences of other learning environments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements to help children to learn and to keep them safe. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures she keeps up to date with all safeguarding matters, such as through training updates. She has a secure understanding of how to identify and report child protection concerns. Her knowledge helps her to know how to protect children's welfare in the event of a child protection concern. The childminder shares some of her activities with other childminders and participates in childminding groups to help her to promote good practice in her own setting.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides children with varied resources that interest them to encourage them to explore and develop their independence. She demonstrates to children how things work and gives them time to explore these resources themselves. For example, she showed children how to push the switch to turn on a train. She gave them time to observe how the wheels turn before they played with the train. Children watched it move across the floor and around an enclosed table. The childminder encourages children to make marks to help them to develop their early literacy skills. She uses children's interests to promote their learning further. For example, she supported children's learning well when they showed interest in playing a musical instrument. The childminder encouraged them to explore a wide variety of different instruments to extend their physical and creative skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's understanding of the world well and helps them to explore new environments and develop their skills. For example, children enjoy outings to attend gymnastic club, playgroups and to visit animals at the zoo. The childminder uses such opportunities to help support children's physical well-being and parents comment positively on their children's learning experiences. The childminder knows the children well. For example, she helps young children to feel settled and secure with their comfort toys. She gives them affection and praise, to help them build good self-esteem and promote their emotional well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Young children are settled and happy during play. They develop very good counting skills. For example, they counted up to 14 decorations while decorating the felt Christmas tree. Children engage and focus well when they are interested in activities. They show care for their environment, for example, as they fetch a cloth to clean up spilled milk. Children are well prepared for their next stages of learning, including starting nursery school.
