This provision is good
The childminder undertakes continuous self-evaluation, leading to ongoing improvements. She seeks and responds to the views of children and parents. Parents are complimentary about the childminder's care and the service she provides. The childminder offers a nurturing and stimulating homely environment. Children have access to a good variety of resources that supports their play and enhances their learning. Children have many opportunities to develop their physical skills. They are confident when taking on new challenges, for example, playing on large climbing equipment during their frequent visits to the local park. Children behave well. They listen to the childminder and follow her instructions. The childminder manages children's behaviour appropriately according to their age, stage and individual needs. Children learn about keeping themselves safe. For example, they practise the fire evacuation procedures and learn how to cross the road safely.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide children with enough opportunities to learn about the similarities and differences between their lives and the lives of others. The childminder does not consistently use information from assessments of children's progress to plan precisely enough for their individual learning and development.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector took account of the written views of parents. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members over 16 years of age and checked evidence of the qualifications of the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder supervises children vigilantly at all times. She regularly checks the environment indoors and outdoors to help ensure that all hazards to children are minimised. The childminder has a good understanding of the possible indicators of abuse and a secure knowledge of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder keeps up to date with childcare practice. She has developed links with other childminders. She undertakes regular training and development opportunities to strengthen her understanding of how children learn.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans a good range of activities and experiences that links to children's interests and what they enjoy doing. Children excitedly use props and puppets as they sing familiar songs and rhymes. Toddlers eagerly join in with the actions. The childminder instinctively knows when to intervene to provide more challenge and extend children's learning. Children readily count how many legs the spider puppet has. Toddlers happily investigate push-button toys. They learn that when they press or turn the buttons, the toy lights up and plays music. Children use their imaginations as they play with small-world characters and vehicles. The childminder sits with them on the floor and enthusiastically joins in with their play. She repeats back what children say and extends their vocabulary.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder works with parents to help children settle into her care. She spends time getting to know children and their parents prior to them starting. Children settle quickly. They show great affection for the childminder. The childminder teaches children to be respectful and caring. Older children show patience towards younger children and are exceptionally well behaved. They happily share their toys with others. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles. She provides children with a range of healthy and nutritious snacks and meals. Children follow good hygiene practices. They learn from a young age that they must wash their hands before they eat and after toileting. Children enjoy taking on the responsibility of small tasks. They eagerly help to tidy away the toys that they have finished playing with.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for their next steps in learning and for school when the time comes. They are confident, happy and motivated to learn. They are eager to explore and make independent choices in their play from the easily accessible resources. Children stay focused and engaged during activities. They are able to communicate their needs. Children have lots of opportunities to practise their literacy and mathematical skills. They enjoy reading books, singing, counting and comparing size and shape. They demonstrate physical control as they build towers with bricks and complete jigsaw puzzles.
