For example, they go on outings with the childminder to national parks, enjoying plenty of fresh air and exercise. The childminder has a good range of activities that help children learn about diversity. Children play with dolls from around the world, helping them to learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others. The childminder helps support children's mathematical development well. For instance, children look for different shapes in their environment. p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder now provides children with more time to investigate during creative activities, she does not extend opportunities for them to explore textures, materials and natural resources, to help broaden their sensory experiences. Although the childminder shares information about children's progress with parents, she does not encourage parents to be fully involved in children's learning at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to children at appropriate times during the day. The inspector held a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at written statements from parents, to gain their views of the provision. The inspector held discussions with the childminder relating to leadership and management. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including safeguarding policies, children's assessments, and the suitability of adults within the home.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of her duty to protect children from harm. She is aware of signs and symptoms to look out for, and the appropriate action to take if she had concerns about a child. Good risk assessments and secure premises enable the childminder to help keep children safe. The childminder researches ideas on the internet to find new ideas to keep children engaged and motivated. She monitors children's progress thoroughly to help build on what children already know and can do. The childminder reflects on her practice well to identify any improvements. For example, she has plans to provide children with more building activities to extend their physical skills. When working with her assistant, the childminder ensures that they are aware of her procedures and children's individual learning needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her observations and assessments well to find out children's strengths and areas to develop. For example, she plans activities around shapes to help support children make progress in this area. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. She encourages them to express themselves effectively, and to clarify their thoughts and feelings. Children develop good mathematical skills and use language well to talk about size, such as 'big' and 'small'. The childminder supports children well during activities. She ensures she makes good eye contact with them and joins in enthusiastically with their learning experiences.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are encouraged to be independent learners. They confidently explore their environment, accessing resources that interest them. For example, they enjoy hanging decorations on the Christmas tree. The childminder recognises children's achievements, offering praise, to help support their self-esteem and confidence to 'have a go'. Children become familiar with other settings, for example, when the childminder collects older children from school. This helps to support their emotional well-being in preparation for starting school. The childminder is friendly and nurturing, and responds well to children's individual needs. She is a positive role model, helping children to behave well.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points and gain many skills needed for their future learning. They are confident learners, and understand and follow rules well. For example, they sit at the table when eating and display good table manners. Children learn to recognise different colours including, gold and silver, and learn to recognise simple shapes, such as stars.
