This provision is good
The childminder is very keen to improve her practice and is proactive in evaluating her provision of care to further enhance the outcomes for children. For example, she reflects well on outdoor learning and how to offer more exciting opportunities for children to take part in, in order to support their interests. The childminder knows the children well and plans for their next steps in learning effectively. All children make good progress in relation to their starting points. Children have fun. They behave well and understand the routines of the day. Children have warm bonds with the childminder and are happy to attend. They play contently alongside each other. Children are developing good levels of independence that prepare them to move on to the next stages of their learning. The childminder uses her policies, procedures and risk assessments efficiently in order to support children's safety, health and well-being.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses some opportunities to enhance children's thinking skills during activities to challenge their awareness of how to complete a task or achieve something. Sometimes, the childminder does not make the most of opportunities for children to develop even more interest in literacy, for example, when reading and looking at books.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder during her interactions with children indoors and outdoors. The inspector spoke with the childminder about how she assesses children's starting points and how she plans activities for their future learning. They discussed her aims for activities on the day of inspection. The inspector spoke to children and parents and took account of their views. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she updates her skills and how she reflects on her provision. The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder demonstrates a clear understanding of her role. She regularly reflects on her knowledge and skills and is eager to continually improve. For example, the childminder talks passionately about joining a group that offers guidance for planning activities. She uses these ideas to adapt for children's interests to extend their learning. Likewise, the childminder is keen to improve her understanding of how to plan activities that utilise the outdoors as a resource and has joined an organisation that supports this. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is confident in all aspects of child protection. She understands how to protect the children she cares for. Parents are positive about the care given to their children. For example, they state that the childminder embeds positive behaviour and is consistent in promoting this. They add that their children are developing good language skills and are ready for pre-school.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder offers a well-resourced environment, indoors and outdoors. She interacts effectively and overall is confident to extend children's learning. For example, she uses descriptive words and phrases to help children put things into context, such as explaining it is 'round like a circle'. The childminder has effective systems for monitoring children's achievements. She makes focused observations and demonstrates a clear understanding of children's next steps. She acts well when acknowledging children's emerging interests. For example, as older children mould with dough and make a 'volcano' she explains to them that they will find out more about these to build on their interests.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children's independence and eagerness to take part in activities. Older children enjoy playing outdoors regardless of the weather. They are keen to put on their all-weather coats and confidently do up their zips. Children understand the importance of good hygiene routines, such as washing hands and drying them on personal towels. They are respectful of each other and show kindness and consideration when playing and taking part in activities. For instance, older children work together to set the table at lunch and snack time. They listen carefully when the childminder explains about how to hold a knife safely and after cutting their fruit, offer half of their banana to their friends.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children have fun and are motivated to take part in their activities. They show readiness for the next stages of their learning. For example, children listen to instructions when transporting and moving water, such as understanding clues and instructions like 'hold with both hands' and 'lift higher'. Children are confident to join in with repetitive rhymes and eagerly take part in copying or even leading the actions. Children develop language skills well. For example they use 'roll' and 'squash' as they mould with dough and describe their actions.
