Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and knows what action to take should she have concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder observes children's play. She uses guidance and her experience of working with children to identify what they need to learn next, overall. The childminder reflects upon her practice and the activities she provides. She involves parents and children and makes changes, such as to the layout and the resources provided, to meet the needs of children. The childminder keeps herself updated on new guidance and attends training as required.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's communication skills well. For example, she verbally labels objects to help build young children's vocabulary. The childminder uses effective questioning to encourage older children to engage in conversation. She gives children time to talk and listens carefully to what they have to say. This gives children confidence and security when talking. Children's physical skills are well fostered. The childminder plans activities which help to strengthen small muscles in their hands and fingers. For example, children enjoy picking up a variety of small objects, such as pom poms, to decorate a Christmas tree. They enjoy manipulating play dough and using a variety of tools to make their own models.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming, homely learning environment with a good range of toys and resources that is presented at children's height. This helps to give children freedom to make choices over their own play and promotes their independence. The childminder uses a range of strategies to support children to understand good behaviour. For example, she calmly explains the importance of sharing and turn taking, and children respond well. Children are encouraged to follow good hygiene routines and they have regular exercise in the garden and walks in the community. They practise skills, such as climbing, at soft-play centres and the park. They also attend playgroups where the childminder supports their confidence to play alongside other children.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident learners. They develop good levels of concentration and spend extended time playing with toys of their own choice. Children are working in line with expectations for their age and make good progress in their learning and development. They enjoy sharing books, engaging in pretend play and learn to recognise colours. They learn to be kind, share and respect each other's differences. Children develop skills which support them to be well prepared for their future learning and in readiness for school.
