This provision is good

 The childminder is consistent in her approach to behaviour management. She teaches the children about respect and to listen to each other's views. This helps children to understand others' feelings. Children behave well.  The childminder provides good-quality teaching, helping children to make good progress with their learning and development.  The childminder gathers the views of the parents and uses these effectively to shape the service she provides. Recent changes have been to how she feeds back to the parents regarding the progress their children are making. She gives them suggestions as to what they can carry out at home to support further children's learning. This helps to support good continuity of learning for the children.  The childminder makes sure that younger children are not left out of activities and she adapts her language well so all children can learn from the activities. This helps to

support all of the children's learning and development.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always share with other professionals information relating to children's stages of development to further support their next steps in learning.  At times, the childminder does not respond to children's natural curiosity about how things work to help to extend their understanding of information technology.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen partnerships with other professionals to help bring about better outcomes for children  extend activities to help enhance children's natural curiosity about how things work and why.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children in the main play areas.  Then inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at a sample of documents, including first-aid qualifications and children's files.  The inspector took into account the views of the parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has worked hard to make improvements to her practice since her last inspection. She now has a valid first-aid qualification and completes a daily record of children's hours of attendance. The childminder has a clear understanding of her role in keeping the children safe. She is fully aware of the procedures to take should she have any concerns regarding children's well-being. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder reviews her practice and analyses where she may benefit from training. Recent training has helped her to review her tracking and to identify the next steps in learning for the children, helping to progress their learning and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder works with the parents to identify children's starting points and to share with them the children's stages of development. Younger children enjoy snuggling up with the childminder and reading stories. The childminder asks the children questions about the story, helping them to think about their answers and supporting their language development. The childminder helps to support children's mathematical development. At the time of the inspection, the older child compared his height to the other child present. The childminder talked to him and asked him who is the tallest. The child looked and responded, 'I am taller but my sister is taller than me as she is older.' This helps the children to think about their answers and to help their problem-solving skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The children develop a good bond with the childminder. They arrive ready and eager to start their learning. The childminder knows the children well and plans activities to help to meet their individual needs. She talks to them, taking into account their views. This helps to support their confidence in speaking out and builds their self-esteem. The childminder takes into account children's likes and dislikes when planning menus, helping to make sure they receive a balanced diet. The childminder makes sure children have access to physical activities, including trips to local play areas, to help to support their physical development.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning. They develop good early writing skills. They enjoy looking at different letters and comparing them to those in their names. The older children practise writing letters and sound these out to help them to write their names. Younger children learn how to hold pens correctly to help them to learn to make marks on the paper.
