This provision is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of the needs and interests of children in her care. She provides a wide range of exciting, age-appropriate activities to help all children make good progress from their starting points. Regular observations and assessments of children's development are used to identify their progress and help the childminder to recognise and close any gaps in their learning quickly. The childminder takes positive steps to evaluate her practice and make improvements. She receives complimentary feedback from parents about the care she provides. The childminder promotes children's personal care skills well. They learn to brush their teeth, access the toilet independently and know when to wash their hands. The childminder supports children in developing their skills in readiness for the next stage in their learning. The childminder is committed to working in partnership with other settings that children

attend and parents to support continuity in meeting children's learning and care needs.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always identify the full range of potential learning opportunities within planned activities to promote children's learning at the highest level. The childminder has not fully considered ways to review her ongoing professional development and help raise the good-quality teaching to an even higher level.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector was given a tour of the areas of the home used for childminding purposes. The inspector looked at children's records, a sample of policies and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of the possible indicators of abuse. She understands the procedures to follow should she have concerns about the welfare of a child in her care. The childminder has detailed policies and procedures to underpin her practice. These are shared with parents so they have a good understanding of the service the childminder provides. She uses risk assessments to identify and minimise potential hazards in her home, garden and while on outings. Children learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, they are encouraged to tidy away toys to maintain a tidy and safe environment.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder offers a wide range of interesting resources to help children explore and develop independence. Children have fun playing and creating with play dough. The childminder helps them to use utensils to mould pretend food. The childminder has developed effective methods to work in partnership with other settings that children also attend. She uses the same strategies as the local school to promote children's interest in books and reading. For example, children collect twigs outside to make their own broomstick after reading a story about a witch's broom. The childminder gives children lots of opportunities to choose what they do. They express their own ideas, thoughts and feelings, growing in confidence. Older children concentrate well as they learn about the importance of brushing their teeth after meals. Younger children develop their imaginations as they play with the train set. The childminder completes the required

progress check for children aged between two and three years, and provides parents with a copy for their child's health visitor.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children to develop their independence, which helps to equip them well for their future learning. Children confidently make choices about their play. The childminder offers consistent praise and encouragement to children, which helps to support their confidence and sense of self-esteem. The childminder is a good role model, demonstrating good manners, and she supports children to learn social skills, such as sharing. Children are learning about healthy lifestyles and have regular access to physical exercise in the garden or on outings in the local environment.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated and enjoy their self-chosen play. All are making good progress across every area of their learning and development. Children are very happy in the childminder's home. They have built suitable relationships with their peers and the childminder. They are able to confidently communicate their needs and are learning to independently manage some of their personal care. Children show they can attend to tasks and concentrate on things that interest them. They are developing very appropriate skills and attitudes in readiness for their move on to school.
