She has updated her policies and procedures to reflect recent guidance.  The childminder organises her home effectively with a range of interesting and enjoyable activities, overall. She uses observation and assessment well to identify where children are in their development and plans some suitable experiences to move them on.  Children are happy and well settled with the childminder whose caring and gentle approach makes them feel and secure in her care.  The childminder understands the benefits of professional development. She attends various training and workshops to keep herself updated.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always plan the learning environment effectively to extend opportunities for babies' physical development.  The childminder does not always give children enough time and space to fully explore and engage in activities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of interactions between the childminder and children.  The inspector had discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at a sample of the childminder's documentation, including records relating to the children.  The inspector observed all areas within the home.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her role in promoting children's safety and well-being and to protect them from harm. She has robust procedures to manage any concerns and she has detailed policies that she uses well to underpin her practice. The childminder makes good use of professional development opportunities to strengthen any previous gaps in her knowledge. For example, she has improved her understanding of how to use observations and assessments to meet children's learning and development needs. She works effectively with parents to provide consistent care and she encourages them to share information with her about their children's development. The childminder is beginning to reflect on her practice to identify her strengths and areas to develop further.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the learning needs of the children she is caring for, overall. She has created a stimulating learning environment that, generally, reflects their interests well. Babies show a keen interest in exploring the interactive resources and enjoy seeing toys light up or make noises as they press buttons and pull levers. They enjoy looking at books. They turn the pages, point to pictures and the childminder names objects for them. The childminder supports children's early language development well. She sings, uses lots of repetition and she responds well to babies' non- verbal communication as they point and gesture to her.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and well settled in the childminder's care. They demonstrate that they feel confident and safe in their environment as they move around freely exploring the resources available, overall. The childminder acts as a positive role model. Her gentle and caring approach supports children to value and respect others. The childminder promotes children's good health well. She encourages them to follow personal hygiene routines from an early age. Parents currently provide their children's meals from home and the childminder ensures that she follows appropriate guidance when heating and preparing food. The childminder uses the information gained from parents to meet children's individual care needs and routines from home.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress and develop fundamental skills in preparation for the next stages in their learning. Young children demonstrate growing communication and language skills. For example, they listen to and respond well to the childminder. They are developing an awareness of others and display affection towards the childminder as they share close interactions with her while engaged in activities together.
