This provision is good
The childminder forms particularly close relationships with children. She is warm, affectionate and gets to knows them well. Children are settled and content in the childminder's care, and build strong attachments with her. They behave well and develop a positive attitude to learning. The childminder accurately assesses and monitors children's development. She provides individual support through carefully planned activities that enable children to make good progress in their learning. Partnerships with parents are effective. The childminder routinely shares her observations of children's achievements with parents and invites them to tell her about children's experiences at home, so they can work together to meet children's needs. The childminder makes good use of self-evaluation to recognise and target areas for development. For example, she is currently developing her knowledge of English nursery rhymes, to enable her to develop children's communication and language skills
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, the childminder does not interact with babies as well as she could to extend their communication and speech, such as modelling simple language. The childminder does not consistently encourage babies and toddlers to use their senses to explore, investigate and begin to make sense of the world around them.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the available play areas and observed interactions between the childminder and children. The inspector took account of the views of children and their parents. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including self-evaluation, Disclosure and Barring Service checks for household members, and children's learning records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of child protection issues and the appropriate procedures to follow in the event of a concern about a child's welfare. She provides a safe environment for children by implementing risk assessments effectively. For example, she routinely closes safety gates behind her to keep children together to ensure she can supervise them closely at all times. The childminder proactively completes additional training to keep her knowledge and skills up to date. For instance, she has learned about the benefits of working in partnership with all of the children's main caregivers. This has helped her understand how to work closely with other caregivers, to meet children's individual needs and provide complementary care and experiences.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands how young children learn, and she provides good support to build on what they know and can do. For example, when she holds the hands of babies who are learning to stand, she plays music to encourage them to balance and move as they 'dance'. Children gleefully bounce and rock as they listen to the songs, which effectively helps to build their leg muscles to support them to stand and walk. The childminder promptly recognises when children develop new skills and enthusiastically encourages them to repeat and practise their latest achievements. For instance, when babies start making different sounds, such as 'clicking' their tongues, she copies this action and gives praise, to support babies to continue to do this successfully. The childminder frequently counts items during routine tasks and general interactions, to familiarise children with number names and their order from a young age.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children arrive confidently and happily, and immediately settle into an affectionate and welcoming embrace with the childminder. The childminder is attentive and responsive to their needs. For instance, she quickly recognises when children become hungry and tired, and subsequently prepares a bottle of milk before putting them to bed. Children are eager to take responsibility for their own care needs from a young age. For example, the childminder encourages babies to hold their own milk bottles when feeding. Children receive ample opportunities to play in the fresh air and develop social skills, such as on regular outings to the park or toddler groups.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points, which helps to prepare them well for later learning, including starting school. They are physically active and learn to express themselves through a variety of ways, such as swaying to music and babbling in a two-way interaction with the childminder. Children are independent and motivated to join in with activities.
