This provision is good

 The manager and supervisor provide staff with a very thorough induction programme. This helps all staff to feel confident with routines and practices.  The management has a very strong understanding of how young children learn. There is an excellent range of resources available, which staff use effectively as part of a rich and varied learning programme. Parents provide examples of children's development at home, which are shared with staff.  Staff have a good understanding of how children learn to speak English. They provide group sessions that support individual children to make very good progress.  Staff have very high expectations for each child, which helps children to learn boundaries and behave well.  The nursery has good links with schools. They provide activities that help most children make good or better progress.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The children's access to regular outdoor play is sometimes limited. The routines to organise play occasionally take too long.  Staff miss some opportunities to further develop children's self-help skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance opportunities for children to access outdoor play to extend their well-being and enable them to freely explore  increase opportunities for children to develop their self-help skills to support their growing confidence and independence.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed care routines and teaching, and the impact of these on children's learning and development.  The inspector considered the views of parents.  The inspector reviewed a range of documentation, including procedures relating to safeguarding, and other records relating to the children's safety and welfare.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the supervisor, and met the owner and other members of the leadership team.  The inspector looked at children's records, the staff's planning and evaluation of activities, and reviewed how the nursery shares information with parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The purpose-built nursery is very well equipped. This helps the manager and staff provide a warm and welcoming environment, where children are very excited to learn. The supervisor understands her role and responsibilities very well. Staff are managed extremely well; they understand how to keep children safe and work very effectively as a team. Staff attend relevant training, which helps them to support children and improve their progress. For example, staff have attended training to support transitions between home and the nursery. Management has an accurate understanding of its strengths and the areas it could improve. Safeguarding is effective. Staff know all the children well, including those who have additional needs, and help them to make good progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff encourage communication skills well, such as by consistently using hand signs to support children's understanding and promote their interest in learning. Children respond very well to extra support from adults. They enjoy learning songs, words and how to count to 20 in French. Staff create exciting activities indoors to help children understand the world around them. For example, children enjoy exploring soil and begin hunting for bugs. Staff ask a good variety of questions to help children to think about why bugs hide. This helps children to develop a greater curiosity about the natural world around them.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

All children enjoy coming to the nursery. The youngest children are very well supported and are confident in the new surroundings. They soon become part of the group, choosing their activities and playing with friends. All children share very well. They find many ways to play together. They are excited about opportunities to sing in front of their parents and dress up in costumes. When children do have the chance to play in the nursery garden, they delight in running, climbing and exploring. Children enjoy very well-balanced meals prepared in the nursery kitchen. The chef encourages children to try a variety of foods from around the world.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress as they are very enthusiastic learners. They are able to take turns and share with others. Children develop very good concentration skills. They choose their own equipment, which they treat with respect. Children learn skills to enjoy books and talk about their families in different languages. They learn to write their names. Children are well prepared for their next stage in learning and for school.
