This provision is good
The childminder assesses children's progress and plans a wide range of activities to challenge, excite and motivate children to learn. Children choose from an array of resources, developing independence while they lead their own play. The childminder supports children's language and communication skills well. They share their ideas and the childminder listens carefully to what children have to say. She asks questions to encourage their thought processes. Children behave well. The childminder praises their efforts and achievements and this helps to build their confidence and self-esteem. She effectively supports them as they learn to share and take turns with toys. Partnerships with parents are strong. Communication is good and parents share their child's emerging interests and achievements. The childminder supports these partnerships further by sharing ways of enhancing children's learning at home.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed an activity and discussed it with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including the childminder's certificates of training, the suitability of adults living and working in the home and the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is fully aware of her role in protecting children from harm and neglect. She is fully conversant with the procedures for raising a concern about a child in her care. The childminder monitors and supports her assistant's ongoing professional development. They undertake required training, such as paediatric first aid. The childminder attends training courses and uses her knowledge of the development of two-year-old children to enhance their natural curiosity. She provides resources, including treasure baskets, to extend their exploratory skills. All suitability checks are completed for adults living and working in the home. Children remain safe. Effective safety routines minimise potential hazards within the home and garden. Children learn about their own safety and practise fire drills to ensure they know the evacuation procedure in an emergency. Parents speak positively of the care and learning
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy exploring and playing in the childminder's home. They use their imagination well and re-enact familiar experiences. They choose pretend eggs, bread and sausages and spend time pretending to cook them in the play kitchen. They explore using their senses. For example, they collect different herbs from the garden and mix them with mud and water. Children show good levels of concentration and become immersed in their play. They enjoy finding different small-world figures when creating a farm. The childminder supports them to move different pieces of train track into place and then push the trains around it through the farm they have built. Younger children make the different sounds of the farm animals they find.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder meets children's care needs well. She ensures children rest and sleep as they need to and readily gives cuddles and affection. The childminder meets their personal care needs effectively and they learn the importance of good hand washing routines. Children enjoy healthy, nutritious foods and the childminder understands children's dietary needs and preferences. Children learn about the food chain and where foods come from. For example, they tend to the childminder's chickens and help to collect the eggs they have laid. Children enjoy being active. They walk to and from school and use various equipment outdoors and at the park to help develop their physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and build the skills for future learning in readiness for the move on to nursery or school. Children learn to recognise their names and register their attendance at the childminder's home. They make marks using various pens and crayons and older children begin the write the letters that form their names. Children delight in singing different songs and rhymes. They identify the days of the week, the date and the weather each day. Children talk about the things they enjoy doing with their families.
