This provision is good
The childminder has taken positive steps to address actions raised at the last inspection. She has reflected effectively on her practice and made the necessary changes to improve the service that she provides. The childminder makes effective use of her secure understanding of how young children learn, to plan interesting activities that engage them well. For example, children create characters using materials, such as cream or shaving foam and they observe how these change shape over time. They are motivated to learn and progress well. The childminder is skilled in helping children develop their communication and language. For example, children provide a voice for puppets and they eagerly practise sounds and words. They express their ideas confidently and gain a secure understanding of their expanding vocabulary. The childminder provides children with effective support to develop their independence.

This provision is good
For instance, she encourages them to manage their self-care routines and to complete everyday tasks for themselves, such as chopping vegetables at snack time.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently establish successful links with other settings that children attend, to share information and support continuity in their care and learning. The childminder has not fully developed the effective use of children's assessments, to help them make the best possible progress.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

exchange information more consistently with other settings that children attend use the assessment of children's learning even more precisely, to help identify where they can make quicker progress in their learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas of the home. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and a range of other documentation, including evidence of suitability, policies and procedures and the childminder's self-evaluation form. The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows how to seek advice and understands the correct procedures to follow, if she has concerns regarding children's welfare. She makes good use of safety checks and risk assessments, to ensure that she keeps children safe, including in the event of a fire. The childminder has a clear understanding of what events she must notify to Ofsted. She has developed effective partnerships with parents. The childminder takes time to help new children settle and she works closely with parents to find out about their child's starting points. She liaises effectively with the local authority and other childminders to improve her practice further. At times, the childminder works with an assistant and ensures that they understand their role and responsibilities.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's mathematical understanding effectively. For example, children learn to count, and they use language to describe shapes and to compare the size of objects. The childminder questions children skilfully during their play and effectively challenges their thinking skills. She makes good use of opportunities to help children make links with their own experiences, such as connecting familiar objects to their colour. The childminder provides a variety of activities that helps children to explore their imaginative ideas. For instance, children use a large cardboard box as a vehicle and they pretend to be taxi drivers. The childminder helps children to practise their physical skills, such as jumping like frogs, dancing and playing ball games.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children receive praise for their achievements and gain good levels of emotional well- being. The childminder gives children clear guidance about what is appropriate behaviour and as a result, they behave well. She helps children to gain a good understanding about healthy lifestyles and staying safe. For instance, they learn about road safety, follow good hygiene practices and enjoy healthy snacks. The childminder plans a range of activities to raise children's awareness of the community they live in and they learn about the wider world. For example, children interact with people they meet, such as bus drivers and shop assistants.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children gain a secure foundation for their future learning. They engage fully and make confident choices in their play. Children are happy and enjoy interacting with the childminder. They frequently express their developing sense of humour and enjoyment. Children develop good social skills and play cooperatively with friends. They persevere well as they complete puzzles, test out their ideas and make changes to achieve success. They progress well with their literacy skills, as they enjoy handling books and practising their early writing.
