This provision is good
Children's safety is a high priority. The childminder supervises children well on the walk to and from school. She reminds them to stay back from the roadside and prompts them to identify a safe place to cross. Children's behaviour is good. They listen and follow instructions well. They are polite and demonstrate good manners. The childminder consistently praises good behaviour and treats children with kindness and respect. This helps to increase children's emotional well-being and develop good social skills. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder provides parents with verbal information, which helps to keep them informed about children's welfare and achievements. Children have an excellent understanding about good hygiene practices. They wash and dry their own hands at appropriate times, and know why this is important. The childminder provides a good range of activities based on children's interests.

This provision is good

p.1

Inspection activities
The inspector accompanied the childminder on the walk between school and the childminder's home. The inspector observed the interactions between children and the childminder during activities indoors. The inspector spoke with children and the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of adults in the household. The inspector considered the views of children and parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder uses risk assessments well to identify potential hazards and maintain a safe environment for children. She has a good understanding of child protection issues and knows what procedures to follow should she have any safeguarding concerns. The childminder has kept herself up to date with current safeguarding issues, for example, internet safety, extremism and radicalisation. The childminder reviews her comprehensive policies and procedures regularly. These support her daily practice and ensure the smooth running of her setting. The childminder accesses online training and extends her knowledge. This helps her to support children's development further. The childminder identifies some areas for development and is proactive in self-evaluating practice overall. The childminder shares information about children's learning with the school that they attend in order to complement their learning
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children well. She understands their stage of development and their individual capabilities. The childminder interacts well with children. They excitedly challenge her to respond to their mathematical questioning. The childminder models thinking well and draws children's attention to the timetable charts to help her work their challenges out. This complements the work they are doing in school successfully. The childminder asks purposeful questions to help children think more deeply. She engages them well in meaningful conversations and supports them to use past and present tenses. For example, children delight in sharing a story about an old bridge on the walk home from school. This supports children to become confident communicators.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder creates a welcoming, relaxed and friendly environment. This contributes effectively to children being happy and clearly at ease. Children comment on how much they enjoy coming to the childminder's home and say they feel 'comfortable' when they are there. On entry, settling-in visits are arranged and planned depending on children's individual needs. This helps to prepare children emotionally for the first day in the setting. Children develop a strong sense of belonging. For example, they have an allocated space for their coats and bags and each child has their own place mat at mealtimes. The childminder promotes children's physical well-being and good health effectively. For example, children benefit from lots of fresh air and exercise through daily walks to and from school and the childminder provides them with a nutritious meal. The childminder's home is well organised and offers a wide range of appropriate resources and toys for
