This children’s home was judged inadequate at the full inspection on 17 October 2017. Following this monitoring visit, we have made a new full inspection judgement in line with our inspection framework. The children’s home’s new full inspection judgement is: requires improvement to be good.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The purpose of this monitoring visit was to review the progress made by the provider in meeting the six statutory requirements made at that inspection. This monitoring visit has found that the issues that led to an inadequate judgement have been addressed and the six requirements are met.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Since the last inspection the home has continued to provide care and support for one child. The previous manager has left the service and an experienced manager from another home run by the same organisation is providing cover. He receives support from an experienced deputy manager.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Since the last inspection: The management team has ensured that staff have received training in relation to the use of ligature cutters. The staff are reading the relevant risk assessments prior to working with the child. This significantly increases the potential for staff to know how to react should the need arise. The management team has provided the staff with core training in child protection. They have also accessed training in a range of other areas relevant to children’s needs. This includes training around child sexual exploitation, trauma and attachment. Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: 1256794 2 The staff team has stabilised. There is far less reliance on temporary or agency staff. The staff report that this has had a positive impact on the child and the wider staff team. The child is now receiving consistent care from a regular team of familiar adults. There has been a significant reduction in behavioural incidents.

This monitoring visit
The interim manager has ensured that the individual risk assessments are updated. Individual risk assessment have also been amended to be easier to read and understand. The interim manager has introduced new monitoring systems. These are in their infancy. Continued use of these systems has the potential to ensure that improvements are sustained.
