This provision is good
Children form strong emotional bonds with the caring and friendly childminder. They go to her for reassurance when needed. Young children show a good sense of security and independence, for example, when they leave the childminder's side to explore. The childminder interacts well with children and extends their learning skilfully. Children make good progress in learning in relation to their starting points. The childminder forms successful partnerships with parents that help enhance children's care and education. For example, parents continue their children's learning at home and provide helpful observations of what they know children can do. Strong partnerships with other early years settings involved with children contribute to consistency in care and education. The childminder successfully evaluates and improves her practice. For example, she made good use of parents' suggestions when planning a more stimulating outdoor

learning environment. The new resources have increased opportunities for children to engage in imaginary play and extend their speaking skills further.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children do not consistently have access to a wide range of experiences that helps enhance their already strong sensory skills. There are few opportunities for younger children to sit and continue their learning in comfort, particularly when they are in the playroom.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's activities indoors. The inspector sampled children's learning records and other relevant documentation. The inspector took account of the views of children and parents from written feedback. The inspector discussed childcare practice with the childminder. The inspector looked at the childminder's self-evaluation form.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder shows a strong commitment to keeping up to date with current safeguarding procedures. For example, she does training every year that helps ensure she has a good knowledge of what to do if she has a child protection concern. Children benefit from the positive changes the childminder makes following thoughtful reviews of her practice. She successfully identifies well-focused areas for development, such as improving opportunities for children to learn about, and value, differences in others. The childminder continues to extend her knowledge and skills, for example, by doing research and gaining advice from other childminders. Very young children benefit from her increased understanding of how to help them move with confidence.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder carefully observes and assesses children's progress. She successfully identifies next steps for their learning and plans further challenging activities for them. The childminder creates a safe and interesting learning environment that children enjoy exploring. For example, young children stretch out their arms and reach for their favourite toys; that are safely positioned on low shelves. They press buttons on toys to make sounds. Young children repeat the action again and again, showing they know how the toys work. The childminder gives them gentle guidance when needed to build on their increasing skills. She extends young children's speaking skills effectively, for instance, by encouraging their babbling and attempts to say words. The childminder repeats the correct word back to them, such as 'spider', and they try to copy her.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder actively teaches children about the importance of healthy lifestyles. She provides plenty of opportunities for children to exercise and enjoy fresh air. Children develop strong physical skills and good coordination. Young children develop good standing and walking skills with help from the childminder. They handle and move different resources, such as homemade shakers and toy fire engines, with confidence and ease. The childminder teaches children good manners and how to manage their behaviour in an acceptable way. Children respond well to the childminder and to other adults. Older children comment that the childminder, 'looks after us very, very, very, very well'.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop well in the skills they need for the next stage in their learning. They are interested in learning and concentrate well at activities. Children engage in play with a purpose and are keen to have a go. They are happy, well-motivated and confident. Children manage their personal care needs well. For example, very young children hold and use their cups carefully when they are thirsty.
