This provision is good
The childminder is ambitious and committed to developing her practice to improve outcomes for children. She makes good use of professional development to strengthen her understanding of how children learn. Children enjoy learning through play and make good progress in their development. The childminder uses accurate assessments of children's learning to identify precisely what they need to learn next. Young children develop a positive attitude towards learning. Overall, they show they are confident and keen learners who can concentrate and persevere at an activity. Children's secure attachments to the childminder and her assistant provide reassurance. They use praise effectively to build children's self-esteem and encourage good behaviour. The childminder works successfully in partnership with parents to promote children's next steps in learning. They share ideas and strategies to support learning at home.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder creates a warm and welcoming environment. She knows each child and their families well and helps children understand about their differences and similarities.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children sometimes do not have enough opportunities to see and independently select resources to use in their play and extend their own ideas further. Occasionally, the childminder does not give children the time they need to think through problems for themselves.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

enhance learning environments so there are even more opportunities for children to spontaneously and independently choose resources to extend their play provide children with the time they need to think about how to solve problems for themselves as they experiment with resources.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector talked to the children and the childminder's assistant during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including training and qualification certificates and discussed the childminder's safeguarding procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Overall, the childminder effectively evaluates her provision and takes concerted action to improve outcomes for children. She reviews children's progress to check for any gaps in their development, and identifies training to extend her skills for supporting children's communication. Since her last inspection, the childminder has completed a further qualification and successfully deepened her understanding of how to support children's learning. The childminder reviews her assistant's practice and provides support and guidance to help him strengthen his interactions with children. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have a secure understanding of how to recognise and respond to concerns about children's welfare. She communicates effectively with parents and other professionals to ensure she is meeting the needs of each child.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly makes detailed assessments of children's development to make sure she knows precisely how to support their learning. She shares this information with parents and provides simple ideas they can use at home to support children's language skills. The childminder uses her accurate knowledge of each child to plan how she will use children's play to challenge them effectively. In the main, she is skilful at introducing new ideas as children play with bricks and start to understand instructions that are more complex. The childminder provides especially good support for young children's early speech using praise and repetition to reinforce clear sounds and words. Children attending the local nursery school benefit from good partnerships between the childminder, parents and staff, who all share what they know about children's progress.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and confident in the care of the childminder and her assistant. They respond to simple boundaries and start to understand how to keep themselves safe. The childminder explains why they must sit down and chew their food properly before going back to play. The childminder works closely with parents, providing support and ideas, to ensure children have a positive experience as they start to use the toilet. She discusses any concerns with parents and helps them identify other professionals who could offer support. The childminder creates a welcoming environment and encourages children to respect and celebrate what makes each of them unique.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their development and gaps in their communication and language skills close particularly quickly. Younger children are widening their vocabulary and learning to put words together to make sentences. They enjoy telling the childminder about what they have made and start to use numbers in their play. Overall, children learn skills, which prepare them well for starting nursery and school. They develop some independence during every day routines and practise their emerging social skills in larger groups of children. Parents are very pleased with the progress their children make.
