This provision is good
There is good communication with parents and relevant information is exchanged daily. The childminder tells parents about their child's day and passes on any messages from school. Parents are happy with the service the childminder provides and feel that she is very accommodating of their child's individual needs. The childminder is kind, caring and a good role model. She encourages children to use good manners. Gentle reminders ensure that children are aware of behavioural expectations in the setting and on regular walks back from school. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder provides children with a wide range of first-hand experiences that matches their interests. For example, children often engage in cooking activities. The childminder uses these opportunities to help them learn about shapes, weight and measures as they develop their mathematical skills. The childminder regularly checks the environment indoors and outdoors to help ensure

all hazards to children are minimised. She keeps all external doors locked when children are present to eliminate any unauthorised access to her setting. Children play and learn in a safe and secure environment.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the best possible use of information gained from teachers at school to enhance fully the quality of experiences children receive.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises. She accompanied the childminder on the school run and observed the quality of learning and play at that time and during indoor activities. The inspector held a meeting with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of all those living on the premises. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder. She spoke with the childminder and children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents provided in written form during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has attended training and has a good understanding of her responsibility to protect children from harm. She has a secure knowledge of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder is aware of her responsibility to report any allegations made against her or any changes to her own circumstances that may affect her suitability to work with children. The childminder seeks the views and suggestions of parents and children and implements changes to benefit the quality of her provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is an experienced practitioner. She gets to know the children well and follows their interests and suggestions of activities. The children have many opportunities to learn through first-hand experiences and develop an understanding of the wider world. For example, as they make pancakes, children learn about the differences between crepes and pancakes. The childminder asks children plenty of questions to help extend their thinking and problem-solving skills. For example, children make choices and estimate the size of plate that they need to fit their pancake. Children learn to use tools for different purposes. For example, they become fascinated as they learn to use a lemon squeezer. They ask the childminder questions to extend their own learning and she provides appropriate explanations and answers.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder gains vital information from parents and works in partnership with them from the start. Children's physical and emotional needs are effectively met in the childminder's warm and homely environment. They arrive from a busy day at school and know the routines well. They wash their hands and help the childminder with manageable tasks, such as laying the table for snack. The childminder frequently praises children's achievements, efforts and actions. This helps to enhance their self-esteem. The childminder takes children on regular adventures on buses and trains. These outings provide opportunities for children to develop their physical and independence skills and teach them how to keep themselves safe in different situations. In addition, they learn about similarities and differences between themselves and others and appreciate the wider world beyond their own experiences.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident, inquisitive and articulate their needs and wants effectively. They have built strong emotional attachments to the childminder and other children. Children are very polite and sociable individuals. They are respectful to visitors and competently share their views with them. Children are developing skills to take manageable risks and make appropriate decisions. They help each other with tasks when others find them difficult. Children make choices and lead activities. They learn to cooperate, work as a team and take turns. Children are developing essential skills for life.
