This provision is good
Children form strong bonds with the childminder who knows them well. She sets clear boundaries for behaviour and gives them lots of praise to help reinforce this. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder gives them daily feedback and keeps them well involved in their children's progress, which helps provide continuity in children's care and learning. Children have opportunities to learn about the differences and similarities between themselves and others. They learn to respect and value diversity. The childminder supports young children's emerging communication skills effectively. For instance, she talks to the children as they play, and introduces new words. Young children develop the skills that will help them in the future, including for when they move to pre-school. For example, they follow simple instructions and complete tasks, such as finding their shoes and helping to wash their hands before meals.
p.1
This provision is good
Children show a good level of understanding and can easily follow simple instructions.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
During planned activities, the childminder has a specific focus for what she wants children to achieve and does not consistently allow children to venture beyond this. The childminder has not kept her knowledge fully up to date, to help her to raise teaching to an even higher level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at relevant documents, including paediatric first-aid qualifications, public liability insurance and policies. The inspector asked the childminder questions relating to her understanding of how to safeguard children. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities, and assessed the impact on children's learning. The inspector viewed the areas of the home used by children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the signs that a child may be at risk of harm. She knows the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. She works well with other professionals, such as childminders, which helps her to gain ideas for activities. The childminder monitors children's overall progress well. Accurate assessments allow her to identify when children may need additional support, and implement plans to help them to catch up. She is effective in her self-evaluation procedure, which includes the views of parents.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. Effective observation, assessment and planning enables her to identify what children can do, and helps her to identify their next steps in learning. She uses everyday experiences to help support children's understanding of counting. For example, they sing rhymes and count how many ducks there are in the song. The childminder provides children with a good range of opportunities to enable them to explore different sounds. For example, they discover a range of musical instruments and listen to the different sounds they make.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her home are warm and welcoming. Children choose from a good range of resources and play materials. The childminder is conscientious about keeping children safe. She regularly checks the environment and takes appropriate action to make sure it is suitable. For example, children shelter under the gazebo if it is very sunny. Children successfully lead a healthy lifestyle. They enjoy nutritious meals and snacks that meet their specific dietary requirements, and they have plenty of opportunity for fresh air and exercise. During activities, the childminder gives children lots of praise and encourages them to complete tasks. Children are happy, motivated and show good levels of emotional well-being. The childminder places a good focus on helping young children to build positive relationships with others. For example, she completes activities, such as playing a game of football, to encourage toddlers to share and take turns.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They are happy and settled, and they play well alongside other children. They are eager to participate in activities and have good listening skills. Young children develop good physical skills as they skilfully negotiate and use apparatus in the garden with confidence. Toddlers are inquisitive and enthusiastically show their pleasure, as they chase bubbles around the garden.
