p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder has taken immediate and decisive action to address the weaknesses raised at the previous inspection. She continually reviews her work to bring about ongoing improvement in quality for children.  Children play with a wide range of resources. These resources challenge them to use their imagination. For example, they use a cardboard box to create a dolls house, a racing car and an animal's bed.  The childminder observes children's play and makes accurate assessments about their good development. She shares these effectively with parents to support children's learning at home.  The childminder places high emphasis on promoting diversity and celebrating children's individuality. Resources are rich and reflect the different ethnicity of children who attend, helping to ensure that all families feel welcome and included.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 On occasion, the childminder does not extend on children's increasing interest in using weight, capacity and size when they play with resources, to explore these skills further.  The childminder does not always find ways to answer older children's questions. She does not support them to understand that they can retrieve information from books and computers.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend on older children's emerging interest in using a range of different mathematical problems  increase opportunities for older children to learn about retrieving information, to further enhance their literacy skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector discussed a planned activity with the childminder.  The inspector held discussions with children and the childminder at suitable times. She looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of the childminder and household members.  The inspector read and took account of the written feedback provided by parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder works effectively with other settings that children attend to help complement their learning. She is well qualified. The childminder and her assistant complete training to regularly update their professional skills. The childminder has plans in place to review and supervise the work of her assistant. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a broad understanding of child protection issues within her setting and in the wider community. She knows about the work of the Local Safeguarding Children Board and has information at hand, should she need to report any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder takes action to make sure that all areas where children play are safe.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children play together with animal playsets. Babies enjoy listening to the sounds of animals as they push buttons and move the toy animals. Babies shriek as they hear the sound that monkeys make and the childminder encourages them to copy this. Children enjoy role-play activities. They play with dolls and put them into high chairs before feeding them with a bottle. Children copy what they see and show imagination as they play at parenting. Children develop their physical skills as they play with a tub of chickpeas. They move the small peas into pots and containers using spoons. This engages their interest for a significant amount of time.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is gentle, warm and affectionate in her approach. Children display their attachment to her as they throw their arms around her neck and cuddle up on her lap. Older children are keen to be independent and helpful. They sweep up spills using a dustpan and brush, and learn about keeping the areas where they play clean and safe. Children eat healthy snacks and enjoy fresh air and exercise in the large and well- resourced garden. Older children are considerate towards younger children and encourage them to join in with their play. Children behave well and are content and settled in the childminder's care.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their individual starting points. Babies are particularly confident in using their physical skills. They display an eagerness to join in and take part in activities with older children. Children are confident and willing to learn. They talk with the childminder and share their ideas readily. Children understand the daily routine and show high levels of self-esteem. Older children are gaining the essential skills they need in readiness for moving on to school.
