This provision is good

 The quality of teaching is good and children make good progress in their learning. The childminder is experienced in caring for children and provides exciting activities that support children's interests.  The childminder establishes warm and secure relationships with children and they have a strong sense of security and belonging. Children's individual care needs are met well and their confidence and emotional well-being are effectively supported.  The childminder effectively supports children to develop their independence and self- care skills. This helps to prepare them for the next stage in their learning, including school.  The childminder is a good role model. She ensures that children are developing an awareness of good manners and respect for others.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Partnerships with all other early years foundation stage providers are not fully embedded in order to regularly share detailed information about children's progress.  The childminder has not yet reviewed the impact that changes to her teaching, especially in the outdoor area, have on children's next steps in learning and the progress they make.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the partnerships with all providers from other settings children attend, so that the most detailed information about their learning is exchanged  review the impact that changes to teaching and the environment have on children's learning and the development and progress they make.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed areas of the childminder's home used for childminding.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector looked at policies, children's personal profiles and a range of other documentation, including evidence of qualifications.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of who to contact should she have concerns about a child's welfare. A range of policies and procedures are implemented and the childminder assesses risks inside and outside the home. This helps the childminder to ensure a safe and secure environment for children. The childminder evaluates her service; she reflects on her practice and takes action to improve the childcare she offers. The childminder values training and uses ideas to enhance the learning experiences for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Parents contribute towards initial assessments of children's learning. The childminder completes regular observations of children as they play, so that she can identify children's developmental stage. A range of interesting activities are planned to support children's interests and next steps in learning. For example, they make models with dough and a variety of natural materials. Children are articulate and confident during their play and interactions with the childminder. For example, they engage well in imaginative play opportunities outdoors. The childminder uses questions during play to help develop children's communication and language skills. Children develop good mathematical skills. For example, while manipulating dough, the childminder discusses shapes and sizes and helps older children to count. Children show they are confident and articulate learners.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has created an inviting and stimulating environment, which supports children's independence and motivation. Children have access to a wide variety of interesting resources indoors and outdoors. They are confident, highly motivated and enjoy exploring their environment. Children enjoy sharing their achievements with the childminder. The childminder teaches children to share, take turns and be good friends with one another. She effectively manages children's behaviour and offers praise to reinforce their positive actions. This helps to promote children's self-esteem and confidence. Children's well-being, health and physical development are promoted successfully. They enjoy healthy snacks and have good opportunities to spend time in the garden. Children learn to respect people's differences as they explore their own cultures and beliefs, and those of others.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Teaching has a good impact on children's learning. All children make good progress from their starting points and develop essential skills for future learning. They are very independent and show continuous learning in all aspects of their play.
