This provision is good

 Staff are experienced and well qualified for their roles. They have a good understanding of children's individual needs and plan interesting and exciting activities which inspire them to learn. Children make good progress.  Partnerships with parents are very strong. Parents are kept well informed and are active participants in the life of the pre-school. Staff keep accurate, up-to-date records of children's progress and prepare well for each child's particular needs.  Children are happy and eager to learn. They respond well to staff and are developing good manners and social skills. Overall, they are supported to develop their independence and to manage their own personal needs. Children dress themselves for outdoor play and share and help one another at snack time.  The managers and staff are committed to continual improvement. They regularly seek out the views of parents to support their self-evaluation. Leaders have managed the

move to an alternative location particularly effectively.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Outside provision does not enable children to develop their independence fully.  Not all professional development activity is focused on improving staff's practice.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 improve opportunities for outdoor learning that enables children to be more independent  enhance professional development programmes that support a more focused drive for improving staff's practice.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the manager. The inspector held a meeting with leaders and looked at relevant documentation, such as the self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the pre-school.  The inspector spoke to a small selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Leaders understand the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Good quality and regular training for all staff ensures that they continually refresh their skills in all areas. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Safeguarding training is up to date and staff check the safety of equipment in the halls daily. Relationships are good between staff, children and parents. These help support a consistent approach to the well- being and progress of all children. Resources are managed effectively and meet the needs of all children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

All staff have high expectations of children and their teaching helps them make progress in all areas of learning. Children make good progress and reach the levels expected for their age by the time they leave the setting. Those who need additional support are helped to close any gaps in their learning and have their particular needs met well. Staff seek out specific training to help support children's individual educational needs. Children are encouraged to develop good social skills as well as the building blocks for reading, writing and mathematics. Teaching also supports healthy habits and encourages children to manage their own hygiene. The key-person system works well and supports children to participate and to extend their learning. Activities are well planned and children benefit from very high-quality art and craft resources.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children's behaviour is good. Leaders use the separate room spaces well to cover a wide range of learning activities. Generally, these encourage children's independence and choice. Learning routines, for example, at snack time and when going outside, build children's knowledge, resilience and personal development very well. Children share politely, sing together about healthy eating and discuss stories with one another unprompted. They are encouraged to stay safe and to respect one another. Children play together well and are developing a good sense of right and wrong. The welfare of disabled children and those with special educational needs is particularly well managed.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Progress for all children is good. Staff are particularly successful in developing children's social skills and they readily share with each other. Their speaking and listening skills are particularly well developed and children gain a positive attitude towards learning. The majority of children are making expected progress and some are advanced for their age. Disabled children and those with special educational needs have these met effectively. Children are well prepared for their next stage in learning and school.
