This provision is good
The childminder is warm and friendly. Children thoroughly enjoy spending time in her care. They settle in quickly and form secure attachments with her and her family. Children learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, they enjoy home-cooked nutritious meals and snacks. They regularly go on walks in the local area to gain fresh air and take part in physical exercise. The childminder listens with interest to what children have to say. She encourages them to use their emerging language confidently and introduces them to new words to extend their vocabulary. Children make good progress. The childminder monitors their learning effectively. She evaluates her observations of the children's play and uses the information to help her plan for their next steps in learning. The childminder has established positive relationships with parents and other providers involved in the children's learning. She regularly shares information about the children

to support consistency in their care and learning. The childminder gains the views of parents to help her evaluate the service she provides. She uses their feedback effectively to help her make ongoing improvements.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide children with enough opportunities to broaden their awareness of similarities and differences between their lives and those of others. The childminder has not fully considered the different ways to encourage younger children's interest in sensory play.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder and spoke with children during the inspection. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents from feedback provided by the childminder. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of her role and responsibility to protect children and promote their welfare. She is aware of the procedures to follow should she have any safeguarding concerns. The childminder completes daily checks and risk assessments to ensure her home is safe and secure for children. The childminder is well qualified and continues to develop her knowledge and understanding of childcare issues. She welcomes support and advice from other professionals and regularly meets with other childminders to exchange ideas and share good practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of child development. She encourages children to gain confidence in their social skills. She regularly takes children to stay-and-play groups, where they interact with other children and make new friendships. The childminder supports children's mathematical skills well. She routinely identifies shapes and numbers during children's play. For example, children sing along to number rhymes and count spontaneously. The childminder knows the children well and uses this knowledge to plan activities that they like and are interested in. Children have fun making their own pizzas at lunchtime. The childminder engages them in conversation and asks probing questions to encourage the children to describe what they are doing. The childminder gives children time to work things out for themselves and offers support where needed.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well. The childminder is calm and patient with the children. She uses positive reinforcement to help them understand their feelings and supports them to manage these from a young age. She provides consistent boundaries and lots of praise to help children gain a good understanding of what is acceptable behaviour and what is not. The childminder has a good understanding about how to support the safety of the children. She minimises possible risks so that children are able to play safely and encourages the children to assess risks for themselves. For example, the children are aware of the danger of a getting too close to a hot oven.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the necessary skills to help them with the next stage in their learning and their eventual move on to school. They grow in confidence as they develop the skills they need to manage their own self-care. Children learn to take turns, share and use their manners appropriately. Younger children are beginning to play cooperatively together and are gaining confidence in their own abilities. They are active and confident communicators. They interact equally well with the childminder, each other and visitors.
