The childminder promotes children's language skills well. She introduces new vocabulary and encourages children to pronounce words correctly. Children are articulate communicators, who confidently use words, such as stethoscope and thermometer, as they pretend to be medical professionals. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Robust risk assessments help to ensure that the premises is safe and any potential hazards are minimised. The childminder demonstrates a good understanding of child protection matters. She knows how to identify and respond to any concerns that she may have about children's welfare. The childminder has a strong desire to strengthen her teaching skills further. She engages in training and meets with other childminders to share ideas and best practice. Recently, she has successfully used knowledge gained from training to strengthen her assessment procedures. This has enabled her to plan more precisely for children's future learning needs. The childminder supervises her assistant effectively and ensures that she has completed essential training.

Children are very imaginative and excitedly introduce narratives into their play. For example, they pretend that a teddy is poorly and take on the role of a doctor. The childminder skilfully plays alongside them, making suggestions and modelling role play to guide and stretch their learning effectively. She encourages children to write for different purposes, such as completing prescriptions. Children listen to stories attentively and talk about the illustrations. The childminder questions children well to help them discuss their thoughts and ideas. Children are inquisitive and excitedly explore trays of flour using their senses. They use a multitude of tools to make marks and demonstrate good control as they accurately fill containers. The childminder carefully observes children at play to monitor their progress and target the areas that they most need support in effectively.
p.3

Children's behaviour is good. They listen to the childminder's instructions and are helpful and cooperative. The childminder makes the most of opportunities that arise to support children to identify and talk about feelings. For example, she encourages children to look closely at facial expressions and talk about how people may be feeling when looking at the pictures in books. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles effectively. Children are physically active and benefit from daily walks and outdoor play. The childminder has established good communication systems with other providers, to share information about children's needs and promote seamless transitions well.
