This provision is good
The childminder uses information obtained from research well to strengthen her knowledge of child development. For example, she knows how to identify and respond to repeated patterns of behaviour that she observed during children’s play to provide greater opportunities for them to explore and make connections. The childminder has created a nurturing and homely environment where children thrive. Children are very confident and have strong bonds with her. They excitedly follow their interests, selecting resources and making decisions about their play. Children are independent and are encouraged to do things for themselves. For example, the childminder has taught children simple techniques that enable them to put on their coats and shoes independently. The childminder is a good role model. She consistently reinforces her behavioural expectations through positive praise and encouragement. Children are cooperative and
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of her strong partnerships with parents to encourage them to continue to support children’s learning at home. The childminder, occasionally, overlooks opportunities that arise during play to extend children’s imaginative skills even further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

develop systems to share information with parents about how they can further support children's learning at home focus more precisely on supporting children to develop their good imaginative skills.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the areas of the home used for childminding purposes. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact on children's learning. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. The inspector jointly observed and evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector talked to the children and considered parents' written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder regularly updates her training to ensure that she has a thorough understanding of child protection matters. She knows how to identify possible indicators of abuse and understands what action to take if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder successfully implements a range of policies to underpin her good practice. She is committed to providing a good level of service and evaluates her practice well to make pertinent improvements. For example, the childminder plans to provide babies with more natural resources to support sensory exploration. Parents provide complimentary feedback and say that children benefit from a varied range of exciting activities and learning experiences.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is encouraging and plays alongside children to guide and enhance their learning well. She makes good use of questioning techniques to support children to express their thoughts and explain their intentions. For instance, the childminder engages children in lively discussions about a recent trip to the farm. She encourages them to relive their experiences as they play with toy tractors and farm animals. Children have an enjoyable time using their senses to explore a range of media. The childminder encourages them to describe texture and introduces descriptive language to extend their vocabulary well. Babies are inquisitive and thoroughly enjoy filling and emptying containers. They babble and make sounds as the childminder warmly interacts with them. The childminder uses precise observations and assessments to monitor children's progress and plan for their future learning successfully. She has established effective two-way

communications with feeder schools to share information and promote continuity in children's learning and care.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children of all ages play harmoniously together. They are cooperative and helpful. For example, older children tidy away resources when they have finished with them and set the table for lunch. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles effectively. Children play outdoors daily where they energetically jump on the trampoline. They follow some simple safety rules and impulsively fasten the trampoline enclosure before starting to bounce. Children enjoy home-cooked nutritious meals to support healthy eating practices.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are keen learners, who make good progress from their starting points. They persist in activities for extended periods and have good concentration skills. Children recite songs and excitedly demonstrate the actions. They enjoy drawing and create simple shapes on paper. Babies explore programmable toys and excitedly press buttons to trigger sounds and lights. These are just some of the many skills that children are developing in readiness for their future learning and school.
