This provision is good
The childminder uses her policies and procedures effectively to support the welfare, care and learning of the children. The childminder has established good partnership with parents, which encourages continuity in children's learning between the setting and home. This contributes towards children making good progress. The childminder makes good use of practical situations and daily routines, to develop children's early mathematical understanding. For example, during snack time she helps young children to develop an awareness of numbers and counting. She also introduces them to mathematical vocabulary. Children receive a range of nutritious snacks and develop healthy-eating habits. Young children are beginning to play alongside others in and beyond the setting. They are learning to share with their friends, so that they develop a caring attitude to others.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes does not allow children sufficient time to play on their own and choose what to do next, without intervening to change the activities or to introduce other resources. At times, during activities, the childminder overlooks some opportunities to increase children's sensory experiences by building on their enthusiasm to investigate and explore.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children. The inspector shared an observation with the childminder and discussed children's learning. The inspector looked at a selection of documentation, including assessment records, evidence of the childminder's self-evaluation, public liability insurance and the attendance register. The inspector took account of written questionnaires completed by parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has successfully addressed the previous action and recommendations, set at the last inspection. She records detailed assessments of the children's progress on a regular basis and uses her notes to move children on to the next stage in their development. The childminder reflects on the service she offers. She has updated her self- evaluation, which takes account of the views of parents, to help her identify strengths and areas to improve the quality of provision for children further. Parents have completed questionnaires, which show that they are happy with the care the childminder offers to their children and the progress they make. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder undertakes training to develop her knowledge and skills. She has attended recent training on safeguarding practices, and is secure in her knowledge of how to identify if a child is at risk of harm and to report concerns to the appropriate agencies.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports the children's communication and language skills effectively. For example, she uses repetition of words and phrases, singing and stories to encourage children to vocalise and learn new words. She also talks to children about what they are doing and encourages them to respond to questions, to develop their confidence in expressing themselves verbally. Children's independence skills are encouraged. For example, the childminder praises most-able children for putting their aprons on, and assists others by gently directing and encouraging them to try to achieve this with her support. She also encourages children to help prepare snacks and choose books for story time. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to learn about the features of their environment and explore their surroundings.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder works closely with parents to arrange flexible settling-in sessions, to help children gain a sense of belonging. She respects parents' wishes about their children's care. For example, the childminder follows babies individual sleep routines, which promotes continuity of care and contributes to their physical well-being. The childminder carries out daily risk assessments to minimise hazards, so that children can play safely. Her effective daily routines and explanations help children learn the importance of good personal hygiene. Children have daily opportunities to practise their physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stage of their learning and development. Young children show an interest in books and enjoy listening to stories. They demonstrate good book handling skills and begin to learn that pictures and print carries meaning. Some young children can count accurately up to nine and name other numbers at random. Children have regular opportunities to learn to play musical instruments and to explore the sounds they make. Babies respond to music by rocking, nodding their heads and clapping their hands.
