This provision is good
The childminder's home is warm and very welcoming. For instance, she arranges toys and resources attractively to help children make independent choices in their play. Children are self-assured and motivated to learn. Children have daily opportunities to be physical. For example, they access the childminder's well-resourced garden area and regularly visit soft-play areas. This helps to promote children's understanding of a healthy lifestyle. The childminder encourages children to be independent within the setting. For instance, they prepare their own sandwiches at lunchtime. The childminder effectively evaluates her provision to help develop her practice. For example, she seeks the views of parents via testimonials and questionnaires. Parents comment on how much their children enjoy coming to the childminder's home and interacting with her family and their friends.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently make the most of opportunities to develop children's awareness of their home language. The childminder does not find out from parents about children's ongoing learning and interests at home to identify ways to improve her planning and partnerships to the highest level possible.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's records and evidence of the suitability of household members. The inspector had a tour of the parts of the premises used for childminding purposes.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of her role to safeguard and protect children's welfare. She is fully aware of child protection issues and knows the action to take if she has a concern about a child. The childminder provides a safe environment where children can play and learn. For example, she undertakes regular risk assessments to minimise potential hazards in the home and on outings. The childminder finds appropriate ways to improve her knowledge and skills in working with young children. For instance, she reads information sent from local authority support workers. She also meets up with childminding colleagues to share information about good practice. The childminder has developed strong links with local schools where children attend. She has increased consistency in learning and improved her processes for supporting children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder works with parents at the start of the contract to help her get to know children's interests and abilities. She gathers the required information needed to help her identify children's starting points. The childminder accurately observes and makes assessments of children's abilities and interests. She uses this information well to plan an exciting range of play opportunities to support children's development. For example, children enjoy being creative and learn about colours as they mix paint and observe changes. The childminder supports children's early literacy skills well. For instance, she reads a variety of stories to children and engages them by asking them questions to involve them within the story. Children have good opportunities to practise their early drawing and writing skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder regularly praises children for their efforts. She also displays children's artwork, which helps them to develop a good sense of self-esteem and achievement. The childminder supports children's understanding of people in the wider world; for example, by teaching them about special cultural festivals. The childminder is proactive in helping children to learn about behaviour expectations, such as using good manners, sharing and turn taking. For example, children cover their mouths when coughing.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are prepared well for their next stage of learning and for school. They are interested in the range of activities in the home and on outings. Children develop good social skills. For example, they visit local playgroups and establish good relationships with the childminder's family and other children. They develop a good understanding of mathematical ideas. For example, children eagerly count pompoms to put on corresponding number cards.
