development. Children are very happy in the setting and value and support each other. The childminder establishes good partnerships with other settings the children attend. The adults work well together in promoting children's learning and development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently provide opportunities for children to fully explore their creative and expressive development and build on their skills. The childminder does not always explore further ways to fully involve parents in sharing their children's learning at home, to enhance assessments and planning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children engaged in a range of learning activities. The inspector carried out observations with the childminder and her assistant. Discussions were held about their practice and how well children learn and develop. The inspector viewed documentation and discussed procedures for safeguarding with the childminder and her assistant. The inspector took account of written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder takes effective steps to ensure that she and her assistant are up to date with early years requirements. They attend useful courses and read essential documentation. Teamwork is strong. For instance, the childminder and her assistant utilise each other's skills and share good practice with other childminders. They are fully focused on doing the very best for all children in their care. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have benefited from regular training. They have a secure understanding of child protection procedures. Both know what to do should they ever have concerns about a child's welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides children with a wide range of activities which challenges and inspires them. The childminder and her assistant effectively engage in conversation with children. Both use books, rhymes and songs well to help extend children's language and mathematics. For example, children thoroughly enjoyed following a story and acting out the movements of different animals such as 'jumping like a frog' and 'wriggling like a snake'. They used 'long' and 'short' to describe animals. There are good opportunities for children to develop early writing skills, for example, chalking on a blackboard. The childminder offers children numerous opportunities to develop their physical skills. For example, they handle percussion instruments, use construction kits and play on apparatus in the park.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her assistant establish a caring and warm rapport with the children. Both adults respond well to children's feelings and emotions. For example, they provide cuddles and support when needed. The childminder and her assistant frequently encourage and praise the children to help them learn. This helps children to make good progress and gain in confidence and independence. Children effectively learn the importance of sharing, taking turns and valuing others. Children are well-behaved and develop good social skills. The childminder establishes clear routines and good standards of hygiene to support the needs of children well. Children enjoy healthy meals and gain a secure awareness of adopting healthy lifestyles.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make considerable gains in their communication and language skills. For example, they listen attentively, acquire new words and talk about their learning. Children apply counting skills well and are beginning to identify patterns. For example, they counted five eggs into a shallow bowl and they remarked, 'It looks like a flower.' Children handle items with increasing control. They acquire a good knowledge of different places and the living world. Children are highly motivated and well prepared for their next setting and school.
