p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder misses opportunities for children to build on their existing knowledge, through exploring and using real items in their everyday lives, to help strengthen their understanding and pretend play even further. The childminder does not always consider ways to enrich children's outdoor experiences to support fully those who prefer to learn outside.

p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her role in keeping children safe. She has attended recent safeguarding training to update her knowledge of the current legislation. She knows what to do if she has concerns about a child. The childminder demonstrates a commitment to ensuring she provides the best experiences she can for the children in her care. For example, she uses self-evaluation well to identify areas to develop and improve in her service. The childminder's partnerships with parents are very good. She talks to them regularly to keep them informed about the care and learning of their children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder works well to ensure she supports all children to develop good skills in their language and communication. She interacts well during children's play, sometimes repeating words to encourage them to learn new vocabulary. She reads favourite books with the children, asking simple questions that they can understand and respond to. The childminder incorporates mathematics and language well into the children's everyday play. For example, while playing with construction toys, the childminder says the names of the shapes and counts the number of bricks. The childminder ensures that the children have a safe space to play and explore, which helps them develop good levels of self-confidence.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming environment for children, where they settle quickly. Parents comment that their children are happy and enjoy attending the setting. The childminder works closely with parents to provide continuity with their children's development. The childminder is a positive role model and helps children to share and care for each other. The childminder helps them to feel valued, especially when she praises them for their good behaviour. The childminder carries out regular and thorough checks on her home to ensure a safe environment. Children enjoy physical activity in the garden and in the park, which helps their well-being. The childminder encourages healthy eating by providing nutritious snacks and meals for the children.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Young children learn to imitate and explore words and sounds, for example, as they sing songs and rhymes. Children enjoy looking at books and pick them up frequently during the day. All children gain a wide range of skills, which helps prepare them for the next stage of their learning, and move on to school. For example, children behave well and quickly learn to be cooperative and tolerant of others. There is a good range of interesting resources for children to choose from in their play. Children are motivated to learn and eager to take part in different activities, showing high levels of well-being.
