This provision is good
The childminder provides a nurturing environment, where children thrive. She has a gentle and calm approach and constantly praises children for their efforts. Children are very confident and demonstrate a strong willingness to have a go and try new things. The childminder interacts well to guide, stretch and extend children's learning. She uses good questioning techniques to help children share their thoughts and ideas. Children are articulate communicators who have developed good conversational skills. The dedicated childminder strives to provide the best possible service she can. She seeks feedback from children and parents to review her practice and uses this to make relevant improvements. For example, the childminder plans to develop her garden so that children can grow their own vegetables. The childminder has developed strong links with local schools and nurseries. She shares information with teachers at times of transition on an ongoing basis to promote

continuity in children's care and learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder works well in partnership with parents, she has not developed highly effective systems to share information with parents about how they can continue to support their children's learning at home. The childminder does not provide the best possible opportunities for children to gain awareness of different people, customs and cultures.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the areas of the home used for childminding purposes. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outside and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises, a sample of policies and other relevant documentation. The inspector jointly observed an activity with the childminder. The inspector considered the views of children and parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The qualified childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She shows a strong desire to develop professionally and continually researches information to strengthen her skills and knowledge to support children well. The childminder has good working relationships with other local childminders. She liaises with them regularly to share ideas and keeps up to date with changes and best practice. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder completes meticulous risk assessments to ensure that any potential hazards are minimised in her home and during outings. She has a clear understanding of child protection matters and knows how to identify and respond to signs of abuse or neglect. The childminder occasionally works with an assistant. She makes sure that her assistant has completed essential training and supervises her well.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder teaches well. She uses her good knowledge of children's interests and learning needs to plan motivating and challenging activities. For example, the childminder effortlessly utilises children's interest in vehicles to introduce them to mathematical concepts. Children have a wonderful time as they send cars down a cardboard tube onto a numbered mat. The childminder skilfully uses this opportunity to help children to count, calculate and identify numerals. She is supportive and enthusiastically plays alongside children to aid their perseverance and make learning fun. Children show good dexterity as they mould and manipulate dough. They use tools to make marks and learn how to use scissors. The childminder monitors children's progress closely and makes accurate assessments to plan for their ongoing learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is an admiral role model. She consistently supports children to use good manners, share and take turns. Children are helpful, cooperative and behave very well. They have good self-care skills and competently put on their shoes and coats before going outdoors. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles efficiently. She carefully plans menus to ensure that the children's meals and snacks are nutritious. Children play outside daily where they practise physical skills and play imaginatively with dinosaurs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They are keen learners who persevere in activities for extended periods. Children notice number flags in the garden and spontaneously count them. They are imaginative and pretend to feed and care for dolls. Children know routines well and tidy away resources when they have finished with them. They enjoy drawing and talk about the colours they are using. These skills help to prepare children for future learning and later moves to school.
