This provision is good
The childminder has addressed the recommendations raised at the previous inspection and continues to embed good self-evaluation procedures. She uses various ways to gather the views of parents and children in helping her to identify and quickly address priority areas. For example, she sends out regular questionnaires. Children spend time combining and mixing together art and natural materials. For example, children add mud and water together in the outdoor area and create pretend ingredients. Furthermore, children mix paints together to create new colours during art activities. This helps to promote children's creative skills. The childminder provides children with opportunities for them to develop an understanding of how to care for living things. For instance, children grow different fruits and vegetables outdoors. The childminder talks to children about how nutritional foods are important. This helps to promote healthy lifestyles.
p.1
This provision is good
Children talk confidently to visitors and demonstrate good levels of self-esteem. They are motivated to learn and respond well to challenges they encounter during play.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide children with enough thinking time to respond to questions before asking further questions. The childminder does not extend opportunities that allow children to develop an understanding of how their feelings and behaviours impact on others.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed an evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has created effective policies that outline the steps to follow should she be concerned about the welfare of a child. She supervises children well and completes risk assessments in the environment. The childminder encourages children to develop an awareness of how to keep themselves safe. For example, she reminds children about the importance of tidying away toys and equipment to help prevent accidents. The childminder completes training and uses this to review her practice. She shares information with other early years providers, including practice ideas. This helps her to keep up to date with changes in guidance. The childminder regularly reviews children's progress. This helps her to identify and address any gaps in learning. Parents are complimentary of the care their children receive when in the care of the childminder.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes how children play and completes planning appropriate to children's individual needs. This helps her to identify what children need to learn next. The childminder shares assessments with parents and invites them to contribute with ideas from home. This helps to complement children's learning. Children participate in their own pretend play using small animals and toy vehicles. They imitate various vehicle sounds as they park cars in the garage, and push toy trains along the track. This helps to promote children's imaginative skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy jumping in muddy puddles wearing wellington boots. This helps to promote children's physical skills. Children develop good social skills and make friends. For example, they interact with others when playing hide and seek games. Children laugh as they find one another hiding in a tent. Children demonstrate good levels of independence and learn to do things for themselves, including putting on their own aprons before messy play activities. Children follow good hygiene practices.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from what they know and can already do when they first start at the setting. They develop good literacy skills. For instance, children pretend to write letters in their role-play post office. Furthermore, they use different mark-making materials, including chalks and crayons to draw their own pictures. Children demonstrate a keen interest in books and join in with identifying different features in the pictures.
