This provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how to assess and monitor children's progress. This helps her to swiftly identify and address any gaps in children's learning and contributes to the good progress children make. The childminder gives children lots of opportunities to do things for themselves, such as setting up activities. This helps children to develop a sense of achievement, builds their confidence and promotes their self-esteem. The childminder helps children to learn about how plants and food grow. Children are actively involved in planting, caring for and gathering in a wide range of vegetables from the garden. The childminder states how this helps children to eat a wide range of healthy food. Parents, through written documents, speak positively about the childminder. They feel their children are developing good attitudes to healthy lifestyles as the childminder teaches them the benefits of exercise and healthy eating.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's procedures to supervise her assistants' practice are not sharply focused on raising their knowledge to the highest possible levels. The childminder does not consistently provide the older children with enough opportunities to recognise familiar words.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder joining in activities with children and discussed the learning that was taking place with her. The inspector saw the areas of the premises used for childminding and accompanied the childminder, her co-childminder and children on a walk. The inspector looked at children's records, evidence of the suitability of household members and assistants and a range of other documents, including the safeguarding policy. The inspector spoke to and interacted with children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took into account the written views of parents and discussed with the childminder the reflections of her practice.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good awareness of how to keep children safe in her setting and when out in the community. She undertakes child protection training and updates her assistants on any changes she implements into her practice. The childminder knows the possible signs that would alert her to be concerned about a child's welfare and she understands the correct procedure to follow. The childminder is committed to providing a good-quality provision. She looks at ways to improve different aspects of the setting to promote good outcomes for children. She includes the views of parents and implements their ideas, such as adding more activities based on children's current interests.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of children's development. She regularly observes children to identify their individual interests and establish what they need to learn next. This helps her to plan tailored and fun activities that support children's individual needs. The childminder effectively teaches children about the world. For example, they enjoy going on walks to explore the changes that happen in autumn. Children are keen to find objects that match the pictures on their checklists. The childminder helps them to learn to count and talks to children about how some things are the same and some are different, such as the leaves they find.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are confident and sociable, they enthusiastically greet visitors to the setting. They are happy and have formed close relationships with the childminder, her co-childminder and the other children that attend. Children learn to share, use good manners and behave well. They show a positive interest in each other and are keen to sit together at mealtimes. The childminder helps to promote children's good health. For example, she ensures that children have regular opportunities to enjoy and learn about the benefits of fresh air and exercise. Children show their good physical skills as they negotiate their way around woodlands paths and run through fallen leaves. Children are provided with healthy foods at meal and snack times and they are learning how to attend to their own care needs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing key skills in preparation for their future learning, including their move on to school. They independently complete puzzles, showing their developing understanding of space and shape. Children enjoy exploring what happens when they mix different colours of paint together. They concentrate and engage well in their play and learning. Children are learning how to use tools correctly, such as knives, which they use confidently to chop fruit for lunch.
