p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder has not kept up to date with her first-aid training. She does not have a current first-aid certificate, which means that she is not qualified to deal with an emergency if necessary, when caring for children. This breach also relates to the associated requirements of the Childcare Register. The childminder does not fully develop children's understanding of the natural world to support their learning further.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder plans a wide range of interesting activities based on areas of learning. She assesses children regularly and evaluates this to form next steps for their learning. These next steps are used to ensure that children are suitably challenged. Children make good progress. The childminder keeps her skills up to date. For example, she attended a course on assessment which has led to more effective ways to do this. The childminder helps children to gain independence skills, such as by washing their hands independently and putting on clothing.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed and evaluated an activity and discussed children's progress with the childminder. The inspector observed the interaction between the childminder and children, and spoke with children when appropriate. The inspector looked at some documentation and held a discussion with the childminder. The inspector viewed the premises with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder does not currently hold a valid paediatric first-aid certificate. Her previous certificate expired recently. This has a negative impact on her ability to support children's safety at all times. It is a breach of requirements. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of procedures to follow should she be concerned about a child's welfare. She regularly checks her planning and assessment, and uses this information to readily support those children who need it. The childminder has sound partnerships with parents and keeps them informed of their children's progress. The childminder thinks about her practice regularly and has set suitable goals to build improvement.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's early literacy skills successfully. For instance, she teaches children names of different objects using colourful photographs and reads stories to them in lively tones. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to develop their creative skills. For example, they knead, roll and build models with play dough and draw pictures with crayons. She supports children's communication and language skills well, for example, by questioning children effectively. The childminder provides children with good opportunities to develop their physical skills, such as balancing, jumping and throwing and catching objects.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder does not have a current first-aid certificate which has the potential to compromise children's welfare. However, the childminder has warm relationships with children. She knows them well and responds to their emotional needs readily. The childminder manages children's behaviour satisfactorily. For instance, she is clear with them about her expectations and explains why certain behaviour is not acceptable. Children learn to respect themselves and others. The childminder helps children to develop healthy routines, such as eating well-balanced meals and taking daily physical exercise.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and motivated to learn. They have good counting skills and know many shape names. Children use their imagination well, for instance, as they get involved in pretend play and make up stories. They have good concentration skills and engage productively with tasks. They learn useful skills for their future learning.
