This provision is good
The childminder is well qualified and experienced. She understands how young children develop. She plans and provides rich, varied and imaginative learning experiences for children. Children make consistently good progress in their learning and development. Opportunities for children to develop healthy lifestyles are highly evident. Children are taught to follow good hygiene routines and use the outdoors to develop their physical skills. The childminder takes children to her allotment where they learn to tend and care for vegetables and fruit. Partnerships with parents are strong. Parents are encouraged to share what they know about their child when they start attending the setting. The childminder keeps them updated and involved in their child's ongoing progress and learning. Children are confident and at ease in the childminder's care. They are independent and play well together, making up games and taking turns in their play.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, children's next steps in learning are not identified precisely enough to help them make the best possible progress. At times, the childminder intervenes too soon during children's play. Consequently, children have fewer opportunities to solve problems and do things for themselves.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

focus more precisely on helping children to achieve their next steps in learning, to help them to make best progress allow children enough time to solve their own problems before intervening to aid their learning further.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector observed and discussed an activity with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents gathered in discussions at the inspection and through written feedback provided. The inspector viewed all areas of the setting used for childminding. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, including children's records and the childminder's policies.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder's home is safe and secure. Robust risk assessments and daily checks on all areas children have access to, ensure children are able to play in a safe space. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder clearly explains the procedures she would follow should she suspect a child to be at risk of abuse. She has attended a range of training since registration and keeps her knowledge up to date through research and the internet. Records, including required policies and procedures, are well organised, maintained and implemented effectively. The childminder regularly reviews her practice. She seeks the opinions of children and parents to inform this process and make changes as and when necessary.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and assesses the progress children make in her care. She ensures that, overall, activities are matched not only to reflect children's interests, but also to help move them on in their learning. Children use their imagination well. They pretend to make a picnic, carefully laying out a blanket and choosing a range of foods from the role-play area. Children converse easily with one another as they talk about the foods they like. The childminder supports children's communication and speaking well. She ensures that she repeats words children are trying to say to enable them to hear the correct pronunciation. Children concentrate well and show good listening skills. They correctly identify a number of sounds played from the childminder's phone. Children love to dance and move well to music. They explore a range of instruments and respond appropriately when asked to make quiet or loud sounds.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children of all ages are happy and settled. The childminder forms warm and sensitive relationships with them. She knows how to help children to feel secure which, in turn, successfully supports their emotional well-being. The childminder places a strong emphasis on supporting and promoting children's good health. She talks to them about the foods they eat and the impact these have on their well-being. The childminder's gradual settling-in process and extensive range of information gathered from parents, help children to adjust well to their new environment. Parents speak very positively about the provision and the flexible service the childminder provides. Children are well behaved. The childminder is a positive role model. Children receive lots of praise and encouragement, which helps to support their developing confidence and self-esteem.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn key skills to prepare them for their next stage in learning and the move on to school. They develop good independence as they use the toilet unaided and make choices in their play. Their mathematical and physical skills develop well. They begin to count as they play and recognise shape in the environment. They handle and use a range of tools and show growing confidence and skill in these.
