This provision is good

 Children are confident and happy and settle well at the nursery. Staff have a good understanding of children's individual needs and routines, and respond positively to these.  Managers and staff reflect well on their practice. Improvements to the management structure within the nursery ensure that staff receive good support and that outcomes for children's care and learning constantly improve.  Children behave well and are respectful and considerate to each other. Staff provide consistent support and offer high levels of praise and encouragement so that children understand expectations and are proud of their achievements.  Children make good progress as they are motivated and keen to learn. Staff monitor children's progress and interests closely. They offer a wide range of activities that provide good levels of challenge and reflect children's individual learning needs well.  Staff follow effective hygiene routines and teach children about how to keep themselves

healthy, such as using pictures to remind them how to wash their hands thoroughly.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally group activities are not well organised to ensure that all children benefit fully.  Although parents provide good information about children's individual learning needs when they first start, procedures for gaining more detailed information about children's ongoing learning at home are less effective.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve the organisation of group activities to help ensure that all children benefit from these as much as possible  build on the arrangements for gaining information from parents about children's ongoing development at home, to better inform planning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector completed a joint observation with the registered individual and discussed the findings.  The inspector observed staff and children in the playroom and the outside area and spoke to them at appropriate times.  The inspector spoke to parents and carers to gain their views.  The inspector sampled documentation, such as children's learning records, staff files and policies and procedures.  The inspector held a meeting with the manager and registered individual.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. Good procedures are in place to ensure that staff are suitable and understand their roles and responsibilities well. All staff attend child protection training and receive frequent updates to ensure their knowledge is accurate. This enables them to respond promptly to any safeguarding concerns. The management team have introduced effective arrangements for staff supervision and for monitoring the quality of teaching since their last inspection. Weekly staff meetings include training to respond to learning needs identified from the manager’s observations of staff practice. This helps to ensure staff constantly improve their skills and work consistently to support children's needs well. There is a strong emphasis on reflection and professional development throughout the nursery. For example, staff working with babies complete specific training on the needs of the youngest children. These children enjoy a broad range of exciting

opportunities to explore, investigate and learn.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff interact well with children as they play. They provide a wide range of activities that challenge children and capture their interest. For example, children increase their vocabulary as they explore the shape, smell, colour and texture of pumpkins. Staff have a good understanding of each child's stage of development and are quick to react to opportunities to extend their skills. For example, as the children count in the garden, staff challenge children to calculate how many more there will be if another child joins them. Staff skilfully adapt activities to reflect children's preferences and learning needs. For example, staff recognise that some younger children are not keen on getting messy as they play. As an alternative they fill plastic gloves with materials such as sand and jelly to build their confidence and provide them with a sensory learning experience. Staff prepare the environment to enable children to gain new skills and build on existing ones during

their self-chosen activities, such as when they use the new listening centre.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children demonstrate high levels of confidence and self-esteem. Older children listen well to instructions and learn to keep safe. For example, children remind each other of the rules as they play a game with a balloon. Staff are very attentive to the needs of the younger children, and closely follow their home routines. Babies show how relaxed and confident they are as they explore and investigate. They seek comfort from staff who they clearly feel very comfortable with. Staff are vigilant about safety and make effective use of risk assessments to help ensure play areas and any outings are as safe as possible.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children acquire the skills to prepare them well for the next stage in their learning. They learn how to manage their feelings and how to behave, for example, as they use the resources such as mirrors, photographs and calming musical instruments, to express their emotions. Children learn about letter shapes and sounds, they listen carefully for rhyming words and the sounds in their name. They enjoy books and join in with favourite stories, such as when they act out the story about the three pigs in the garden.
