This provision is good
The childminder demonstrates a very good understanding of how to support children's communication and language. She listens carefully and repeats and extends what children are saying. Children are very happy in the childminder's care. They settle quickly and form very good relationships with the childminder and other children. The childminder has a good overview of children's achievement. She acts swiftly if she identifies areas where children need further support. Clear plans ensure children make more than good progress in these areas. The childminder works effectively with other providers. They share information about what children have been learning and the childminder builds upon this. The childminder places a high priority on children's safety. The premises are very safe and secure. Young children learn how to keep themselves safe outside. For example, they understand they need to hold the childminder's hand and stop at the kerb.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently help younger children to learn how good hygiene practices can support their good health. Although the childminder has a good overview of how she can improve her provision overall, she does not consistently seek the views of parents to drive continual improvement.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector had a tour of the premises and spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her responsibilities regarding child protection. She has a secure knowledge of the procedures to follow and knows who to contact should she have any concerns. The childminder is committed to her own professional development. She is keen to improve her own qualifications and has attended training to improve her provision further. For example, the childminder has recently strengthened her understanding of how to support children's speech and language. She talks confidently about how she is using this to support children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy their learning and show high levels of engagement in activities, especially those they have chosen themselves. The childminder has a good understanding of how to support children's play and learning. She plays alongside children and follows their interests. This helps them to concentrate and become motivated in their learning. For example, young children demonstrate high levels of concentration as they look at books or paint the walls outside. The childminder gives children time to find solutions to problems. For example, as children experiment with sending balls and cars down ramps, she gives them time to find out that balls would not fit down one ramp. The childminder uses her assessments to identify what children need to learn next. She works effectively with parents to ensure they understand how they can support their child further at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows children well. She talks about their interests and instinctively knows when children are tired. Children settle quickly into the childminder's care. They are emotionally secure, they thrive on the praise they receive and often can be heard saying 'good job'. Children love spending time with the childminder. Younger children enjoy cuddles and tickles as they listen to stories. Children behave well. The childminder has clear behavioural expectations which she consistently reinforces. The childminder is committed to ensuring children have fresh air and exercise. Children spend extended time outdoors in the childminder's garden. They also walk to school and develop their physical skills further, for example, in local parks or soft-play centres.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They are developing the necessary skills for their future learning. Young children develop a love of books. They listen intently as the childminder reads stories to them. Children become confident to communicate their needs and interests. Young children experiment as they join words together and begin to use simple phrases to communicate. Children are enthusiastic as they choose resources and begin to solve everyday problems. For example, they persevere and learn how to place cars in a chute correctly.
