This provision is good
The childminder offers children a nurturing and stimulating homely environment. Children settle well and enjoy their play. The childminder values their ideas and preferences. Children confidently direct her in their play. They have fun in her setting. Children have free access to a wide range of well-presented play materials that helps them to participate in purposeful play and support all areas of their learning. Children gain the skills to help them secure future success in their learning. The childminder supports children's communication and language well. She is very alert to children's comments and uses these well to build conversations that follow children's interests. The childminder reflects on her provision on a regular basis, engaging parents and the local authority to help make improvements. As a result, she has increased opportunities for parents to see their children's learning records and strengthened her policies.
p.1
This provision is good
Parents are very positive about the care she provides.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
During some activities that involve children at different stages of development the childminder does not make the most of opportunities to extend the learning for the most able and older children. Although the childminder has established some links with other early years settings children attend, she does not consistently share detailed information to ensure the highest levels of continuity.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times. The inspector looked at a range of documentation and spoke to the childminder about how she evaluates the effectiveness of her provision. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and she and the childminder jointly evaluated the effectiveness of her interactions with children. The inspector checked the evidence of the childminder's training. The inspector considered the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly updates her knowledge of child protection issues. She knows the reporting procedures to follow in the event of a safeguarding concern. The childminder completes risk assessments that help children stay safe in her care. The childminder makes good use of professional development opportunities to improve her knowledge and skills. This has a positive impact on children's learning. For example, younger children have benefited from more opportunities to explore using their senses. Children who prefer to play and learn outside now have more opportunities to do so.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her assessment and observations to identify what children need to learn next. She tracks children's progress to identify and address any gaps. The childminder is attentive to children as they play. She makes suggestions, introduces resources and asks questions, engaging children's interest well. Children have many opportunities to develop their imaginative play. For example, they enjoyed dressing up and playing musical instruments. Children create pictures using glue and glitter to capture their experiences of a firework display. The childminder supports children's early mathematics and literacy skills well. For example, she teaches children they can count many different items, such as blocks and claps. She encourages children to recognise letters and the sounds they represent.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder successfully supports children's emotional and physical well-being. She treats children with kindness and sensitivity. The childminder tailors her settling-in arrangements to suit children's needs. Children form close bonds with her. The childminder teaches children how to stay safe. For instance, children learn to check for tripping hazards before they embark on challenging physical feats, such as carrying many objects. The childminder effectively supports children to develop their independence and self-care skills, appropriate to their age and stage of development. She helps them to behave well and they gain good social skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning and development relative to their starting points. Children socialise well and learn to value each other's differences. They show good levels of curiosity and are motivated as they explore the activities and toys on offer. Older children enjoy joining construction pieces together to make models of houses. They develop a clear understanding of their own community, such as when chatting while looking through their family photograph books. Children show an interest in numbers and are beginning to confidently count as they play.
