Inspection activities
The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including the childminder’s training certificates, insurance policy, records of attendance, risk assessments and safeguarding policy. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her daily teaching and care practices. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder, and observed the quality of care and teaching. The inspector took account of parents’ views during the inspection. The inspector looked at the areas of the home used for childminding purposes.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has attended safeguarding training and follows appropriate safeguarding policies and procedures, to protect children in her care. She knows how to record and report any concerns, including allegations, to the relevant authorities. The childminder develops close patnerships with parents. She builds trust, and helps to put parents and children at ease when they first start at the provision. The childminder provides good information to parents about children's care and learning. She monitors children's progress well. The childminder knows how to seek support from other professionals to identify and close gaps in children's development. The childminder has addressed the recommendations from the previous inspection well. For example, she has supported older children successfully to develop their understanding of healthy eating.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans stimulating indoor opportunities for children to enjoy and learn. Younger children explore different sensory materials and experiences effectively. For instance, babies shake a rattle and listen to the sounds attentively, and they press the buttons on toys and look at the flashing lights excitedly. Babies learn to recognise their own reflection and movements in a mirror. Children react to the childminder's positive interactions, emotions and reassurances well. For example, babies stop to look when the childminder talks and they make sounds in response to her. Babies smile to show their excitement and lift their arms, eagerly anticipating that the childminder will pick them up.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle easily and quickly in the childminder's care. They develop close bonds and attachments with her. Babies crawl around confidently inside the childminder's home, to explore the resources accessible to them. The childminder creates a happy and positive environment for children. She gets down to the children's level, and she interacts to support them well during their play. She offers praise and encouragement to motivate them. The childminder is a good role model for children. For example, she uses positive words and listens attentively to them. The childminder supervises children consistently to ensure they are safe. She makes sure they sleep comfortably and she works with parents to provide healthy food for children.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop key skills to help them with their next stage in their learning. For example, babies are active and they learn to sit up without support. They can grasp and handle small objects independently. Babies learn to use their voice, eye contact and facial expression to interact and express themselves well. Babies are happy and they form close relationships with familiar people.
