It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder does not meticulously link planning to the next stage in children's development, so that they always undertake highly challenging activities. The childminder has not focused her professional development on enhancing her good teaching to an even higher level.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has good knowledge of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse and the wider issues surrounding child protection. She knows the action to follow should she have a concern about a child in her care. The childminder encourages parents to contribute their views and opinions through questionnaires and verbal feedback. Parents comment positively about the range of activities the childminder provides and the good progress their children make.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder encourages the development of children's coordination and small-muscle skills in preparation for writing. Children enjoy taking part in creative activities and handle tools, such as glue spreaders with increasing control. The childminder models how to roll tissue paper into small balls and children copy her actions. She encourages children to count during their play and introduces words to describe distance, such as middle. This helps to develop their early mathematical skills. Children have many opportunities to enhance their early literacy skills and enjoy looking at books. The childminder reads stories about hedgehogs to help extend children's learning about autumn and winter. She introduces new word as she reads, such as 'nocturnal' and 'prey' and explains the meaning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has effective settling-in arrangements. She visits children in their own home and finds out about their abilities and care routines. Children show how they feel safe in the childminder's care and form secure attachments with her. The childminder helps children to prepare emotionally for the wider social network of school. She makes regular visits to local playgroups, which helps children to develop their confidence to socialise with others. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to develop their independence. For example, children spread butter on their toast and take care of their personal hygiene needs well. The childminder promotes children's good health effectively. They are beginning to understand how nutritious meals help their body to grow. Children have good opportunities to find out about cultural festivals and celebrations. They learn about similarities and differences between themselves and others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are learning new skills that help them to prepare well for their future education. They listen attentively to stories and respond to what they hear with relevant comments and asking questions. Children talk about family members who are not present and things they have observed, such as the squirrels in the park. They show their understanding of size, as they identify small and big leaves during their creative play. Children behave well and are motivated learners who enthusiastically join in with all play. They are working within the typical range of development for their age.
