This provision is good
The childminder works closely with parents and external agencies to successfully support children's learning and development, particularly where gaps in learning exist. The childminder knows children well and monitors their development carefully to plan a variety of learning experiences that helps them make good progress. The childminder teaches children a range of important skills in preparation for their next stages of learning and for school. Children enjoy positive relationships with the childminder and her assistants. They settle well for most of the time and develop good levels of confidence. The childminder and her assistants focus well on meeting children's personal care needs to ensure that they feel comfortable throughout the day. The childminder supervises her assistants closely and she is a good role model to help them follow her procedures successfully.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
During creative activities, the childminder sometimes focuses too much on achieving an end result rather than allowing children to explore and experiment for themselves. At times, the childminder overlooks opportunities to encourage children to do more things for themselves to increase their independence.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors. The inspector and the childminder observed and discussed an activity together. The inspector talked to the childminder, assistant and children at appropriate points throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, and evidence of suitability and training for the childminder and her assistants. The inspector took account of the views of parents from references provided to the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding procedures and knows what to do if she has concerns about a child's welfare. She keeps herself and her assistants up to date with any changes to safeguarding matters. The childminder and her assistants supervise children closely and provide a safe environment to reduce the risk of accidents and incidents. The childminder maintains ratios at all times and ensures that her assistants are suitable to work with children. She encourages parents to contribute their views to support her self-evaluation process, and she reflects on activities and children's progress routinely to make improvements. For example, she now makes better use of evidence of children's progress to encourage parents to contribute more about their child's learning experiences at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder models good practice to her assistants for most of the time, to help them develop their knowledge and skills. For example, she teaches children to recognise sounds, letters and shapes, and she incorporates counting in their play routinely to support early literacy and mathematical development. The childminder uses good-quality interactions to support children's learning and to introduce new vocabulary effectively. She helps children to reflect on their previous experiences to help them make links in their learning successfully. The childminder addresses any concerns about children's development swiftly and supports parents effectively to access additional help from outside agencies.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has an enthusiastic approach to caring for children, and her assistants are kind and supportive. They help children to learn about behaviour expectations effectively and encourage them to be kind to each other. The childminder supports children to develop a positive attitude to people who are different from themselves, for example, as they enjoy learning about different cultural festivals. The childminder and her assistants help children to learn about the importance of safe and healthy lifestyles, such as teaching them about safety on outings and encouraging them to try nutritious foods.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children show care and concern for others, and they learn to manage their feelings and behaviour. They develop good speaking and listening skills as they join in confidently with action songs and rhymes. Children develop important physical skills, such as using writing tools and climbing steps. Older children develop a good awareness of sounds, letters and numbers, and use an increasing range of mathematical language. They talk confidently about things that interest them, such as living things in the natural world.
