This provision is good
The childminder prepares play activities sensitively and carefully to provide stimulating learning experiences. The childminder has an enthusiastic and energetic approach to teaching children, and prepares them well for their next stages in learning and for school. The childminder makes effective use of her assessment and planning procedures to help all children make good progress, and to close any gaps in learning. Children show that they feel secure and safe with the childminder, and they develop good relationships with her. The childminder is a positive role model and helps children to learn about behaviour expectations effectively. The childminder supervises children closely and has a good regard to safety procedures to help reduce accidents and incidents. The childminder reflects on her practice routinely, which improves outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder overlooks opportunities to focus fully on the learning and development of babies to support their progress further. The childminder does not make the very best use of play opportunities during the winter months to enable the youngest children to benefit fully from fresh air and physical exercise.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors. The inspector and the childminder observed and discussed an activity together. The inspector talked to the childminder at appropriate points throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, planning documentation, evidence of the childminder's training and her self-evaluation form.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a confident and clear understanding of safeguarding procedures, and knows what to do if she has concerns about children's welfare. She provides a safe and welcoming environment, and reviews safety procedures routinely to help keep children safe. The childminder encourages parents to share their views to help her evaluate the effectiveness of her practice. She takes careful steps to make improvements that help children make better progress. For example, following monitoring of her practice, she has focused well on providing a range of interesting activities that encourage children's early writing skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's play and learning well overall. For example, she supports babies to explore new textures and objects as they enjoy playing with natural materials and household items. The childminder demonstrates how things work and encourages children to experiment with different materials. She uses high-quality interactions for most of the time to engage children's interest effectively and to encourage good communication and language skills. The childminder works well with parents and other settings that children attend to develop consistency in children's play and learning experiences. For example, she supports parents to help teach older children about sounds and letters accurately to support their early literacy skills effectively.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows children well. She takes care to find out about their interests and routines when they first start to help them settle quickly. The childminder supports children to become confident and independent. She works well with parents to encourage healthy eating and she enables children to eat and sleep according to their individual routines. The childminder teaches children about playing safely and good behaviour to support their welfare and to encourage positive relationships. She embraces diversity and helps children to be respectful to people who are different from themselves through a range of interesting learning experiences.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Babies settle well and cooperate with some routines. They develop a strong desire to explore using their whole bodies, their hands and mouths. Toddlers develop good skills for independence, such as helping to clear up after mealtimes. Children develop good communication skills, including those learning English as an additional language. Older children develop good pencil control and an understanding of sounds and letters. All children enjoy play experiences that help them to learn about the world around them successfully.
