Children benefit from excellent continuity in their care and education between the setting and home. The childminder is well qualified. Inspection activities
The inspector observed teaching practice and conducted a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding and held discussions with the childminder. The inspector looked at the documents available, including relevant records, policies and procedures. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder and her assistant. The inspector sought the views of children from discussion, and parents from the written evidence provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder is extremely dedicated to her role. She supervises her assistant well. She ensures that she continually has the skills to effectively fulfil her job. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder's understanding of child protection issues is very strong. She is alert to the indicator of possible abuse or neglect and knows exactly what to do if she has any concerns. This helps to protect the children in her care. The childminder makes extremely incisive use of self-evaluation to reflect on the quality of the setting. For example, recently, the childminder has identified a desire to strengthen the provision for children who prefer to learn outside. She has plans in place for future development to help continually maintain their outstanding progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
Teaching is consistently excellent. The childminder makes accurate assessments of children's abilities. She carefully plans and provides activities that meet children's individual learning needs. For example, babies have great fun investigating a variety of toys they can use and combine in different ways at floor level. The childminder shows them items and models how they can be used. This helps to develop their exploratory skills and understanding of the world. Children experiment with coloured play dough to make models. The childminder talks to them about what they are doing and encourages them to think about their ideas. This helps to develop their creative and imaginative skills. All children are progressing extremely well in their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children flourish in the childminder's care. The childminder encourages healthy practices. For example, she promotes a government initiative about being healthy called 'Change for Life'. She talks to children about the benefits of eating well, promotes exercise and encourages them to manage their self-care independently from an early age. Children have positive relationships with the childminder and their peers. They listen to instructions, adhere to the behaviour boundaries set and interact well with each other. The childminder values children as individuals. She uses what she knows about children's home lives to teach them about their differences. For example, she speaks to children in different languages alongside English, where appropriate. Children learn about acceptance, tolerance and respect towards others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
All children make rapid progress and are fully equipped with all the skills they need for the eventual move on to school. Children are extremely confident and can take responsibility for small tasks. Children develop excellent communication and language skills. The childminder uses teaching strategies, for example, 'Learning to Talk', to enrich the curriculum and provide children with ample opportunities to refine their speaking skills. Children are developing excellent literacy and mathematical skills. For example, they can identify and sound out letters of the alphabet, and they can work out numbers one more than another up to 10.
