She knows exactly how to handle any concerns without delay. This helps to protect children from harm. The childminder is well qualified and understands her responsibility to supervise her assistant. She ensures they keep their essential skills up to date, especially safeguarding and first aid. This has an extremely positive impact on the quality of care provided. Recently, the childminder has identified a desire to develop her teaching practice even further. She recognises there is scope to extend her professional development. The childminder plans to conduct more research and seek additional training to help maintain outstanding outcomes for all children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The quality of teaching is excellent and the planning is incredibly well informed. The childminder monitors children's progress and effectively addresses any gaps in their learning so that they promptly close. For example, recently she has successfully extended children's communication skills. She makes use of a teaching initiative which has helped her to introduce more language activities into the setting for children of all ages. For example, babies enjoy rhymes with hand puppets, and children delight in opportunities to explore musical instruments and sing familiar songs. She has also offered parents plenty of specific guidance and advice to help with this learning at home. This means all children continue to develop very well.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children are thriving in the childminder's care. She promotes their physical and emotional well-being extremely well. For example, she follows the 'Change for Life' government health initiative in the setting. The childminder gives children access to fresh air as often as possible and activity encourages exercise. Children greatly enjoy climbing, balancing, sliding and swinging on the physical play equipment outside. Children manage their behaviour very well. The childminder helps them to respect their environment and each other. Young children learn to negotiate and take turns with others. Older children form special friendships and learn to show great consideration for their younger peers.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are becoming highly skilled learners. Any additional help children require is swiftly available to either further challenge or support their developing skills. They quickly refine all of the essential skills they need to move on to school. Children are curious, inquisitive and eager to know more. They are very confident and quickly become independent. Children are developing strong skills in literacy and mathematics. For example, they can act out familiar stories and share their ideas about what is happening in different books. When making models, they can easily count the number of straws they have used beyond five and talk about the patterns they have made in the play dough.
