This provision is good
The childminder is experienced and qualified. She has thorough systems in place to observe children. She tracks their progress very closely, overall. Any children who are at risk of falling behind are quickly identified and the childminder works closely with external agencies to ensure all children's needs are met. Daily routines are well established and effectively support the children's learning and development. Children's independence skills are extremely well supported. The childminder has established strong links with parents and local schools, which helps to ensure continuity in learning and care for all children. Parents are overwhelmingly positive and make comments, such as, 'Since my daughter started she has flourished'. The childminder places high importance on children learning about the wider community. They regularly visit local parks, landmarks and toddler groups. Children are very confident and motivated to learn new things.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder is kind, caring and affectionate. She gets to know children and their families well from the outset. Children form close attachments to her, which helps to support their emotional well-being. They quickly become settled, happy and relaxed within the setting.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Planning to follow children's interests is not yet fully embedded to show the positive impact made on their progress.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
embed the new system for planning to follow children's interests more carefully and evaluate the impact on outcomes for them.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is a very reflective practitioner. She accesses training and continuously evaluates the service she provides. She values and acts upon parental feedback to ensure her targets for future development are focused. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has robust systems in place to ensure any concerns she may have about a child's welfare are followed up immediately. She knows the local procedures to report her concerns. Risk assessments are completed regularly. The childminder includes children in risk assessing activities. For example, children regularly take part in fire drills and older children are included in discussions about how to improve them next time.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a warm and welcoming learning environment. Resources are well organised so that children can make choices about their play. Since the last inspection, the childminder has introduced a range of print to the environment, which helps to support children's awareness of print in the environment. Toddlers show high levels of interest in a counting poster. The childminder supports them to count beyond three objects as she introduces new number names. The children are delighted to join in with words and actions as the childminder teaches them new songs and rhymes. The childminder places high importance on developing children's physical skills. Older children are challenged during regular trips to physical play areas. Babies are supported very well with their developing mobility skills as they learn to walk.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's behaviour is managed very well. Children listen and follow instructions. For instance, they help the childminder to tidy up and they show respect for their toys. The childminder is a positive role model and provides clear guidance to children about her expectations and why they are important. Children's physical health is promoted well. They enjoy balanced meals and healthy snacks. Children show understanding of good hygiene practice, such as washing their hands prior to eating lunch. They are developing secure levels of independence. For example, toddlers learn to feed themselves with support from the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They make excellent progress in their speaking skills and are learning to communicate very well. They learn new words at a rapid rate and use them in context. Toddlers are beginning to engage in imaginative play as they pretend to make a cup of tea for the childminder and look after the dolls. They learn how to cooperate with others and develop the skills and attitudes they need for the next stages in their learning.
