This provision is good
The childminder helps children to become independent. Children make choices about where and what they want to play with in the house. They confidently demonstrate their new skills, such as putting on aprons for messy activities and their wellingtons for outdoor play. The childminder has a good knowledge of how children learn and closely observes them as they play. This information is used to skilfully make accurate assessments of children's current developmental stage and to plan next steps in their learning. Children behave well and show care and consideration for others. The childminder uses praise and encouragement to help children feel proud of their achievements and to develop positive relationships. Children form a secure bond and a strong relationship with the childminder. The childminder collects detailed information about the children's routines and uses this information well to meet their individual care needs.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully explore ways to extend her learning and teaching skills so that children's learning and development is of the highest possible quality. The childminder has not fully explored how to involve parents in how they can support their children's learning at home to the highest level.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times. She looked at relevant documentation and checked the suitability of persons living on the premises. The inspector took into account the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection issues. She knows what to do and where to find information for the appropriate agencies should she have any concerns. The childminder monitors children's progress well and completes progress checks for two-year-old children. This helps her identify any gaps in children's development, address this swiftly and provide appropriate support. The childminder evaluates her practice. She links with other registered providers in the area and keeps up to date with mandatory training. The childminder forms successful partnerships with other settings children attend, regularly sharing children's information. This fosters continuity in children's learning and care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a stimulating environment for children both indoors and outdoors. She uses children's interests to help make their learning enjoyable. For example, children enjoy exploring the textures and shapes of leaves, conkers and acorns they have collected while on a walk. The childminder supports children's early mathematical skills well. For instance, she encourages children to match and sort items, count and recognise different shapes as they play. Children develop good physical skills as they move and negotiate the imaginary farm animals through the oats. The childminder skilfully makes learning fun as the children enjoy exploring the oats, sprinkling them in the air. She models and supports play well as children learn to be imaginative with the interesting and varied equipment available.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is kind and caring. Children settle quickly and show they are happy as they explore their surroundings with confidence. The childminder completes thorough risk assessments of her environment. This allows children to play safely and securely within her home. Children have daily opportunities for physical exercise outdoors in the fresh air. They walk to local facilities, such as parks and farms, and use the equipment and resources in the childminder's garden. Children begin to learn about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. They eat nutritious and well-balanced meals and snacks freshly prepared by the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good developmental progress and are well prepared for the next stages in their learning, such as starting school when the time comes. Children build on their early writing skills as they draw shapes and letters in the sand and in the gloop. This helps them to refine and develop skills needed for writing and fosters their understanding that print has meaning. Children successfully progress in their listening and attention skills. They remain focused on tasks and activities and effectively follow instructions from the childminder.
