This provision is good
The childminder reviews her provision regularly to see where she can make improvements. For example, she ask parents for their views and discusses her practice with other childminders. She makes effective plans to improve the quality of teaching. For instance, she is currently developing her use of posters and displays to support children's learning and interests. Children are happy and well settled in the childminder's care. They demonstrate that they enjoy close and caring relationships with her. For example, they snuggle on her lap for comfort and enjoy sharing a joke together. This supports their confidence and self- esteem well. The childminder develops effective partnerships with parents. Parents give positive feedback on the quality of her service. They feel that there is a good exchange of information with the childminder and she looks after their children well. Children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make good

progress from their starting points. They learn how to listen and attend to what others say, and confidently express their own thoughts and ideas.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to develop children's understanding of good hygiene routines and help them build on their personal skills, particularly at mealtimes. At times, children cannot access a wide range of resources independently, to support their self-led learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed a range of indoor activities and discussed these with the childminder, to assess the quality of teaching and its impact upon children's learning. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at various points throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at a sample of documentation. The inspector observed and spoke to children during the inspection and considered their views and experiences. The inspector took account of parents' views from their written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder shows a commitment to consistently improving her professional skills and knowledge. For example, she regularly meets with her childminding mentor to discuss how she can improve her teaching practice. She attends training to ensure that she knows how to keep the children she cares for safe and healthy. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the signs which might indicate a child is at risk from harm. She is confident about how she should report any concerns. The childminder uses risk assessments effectively to ensure that her home is safe and secure, and to make certain that the places she visits with children are suitable.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly observes the children to monitor how they are progressing and to identify what they need to learn next. She shares this information with their parents to help them support their children's learning at home. The childminder understands how children learn and plans a good range of activities to support their development. For example, she teaches them a variety of songs and rhymes, to develop their language and communication skills. The childminder helps children to learn about numbers and supports their counting skills well. For instance, she shows them how to use their fingers to represent numbers, as they sing counting rhymes and encourages them to count items as they order and sort.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children to learn about healthy lifestyles. For instance, she provides nutritious meals and snacks which include plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. The childminder encourages children to be physically active and ensures that they have daily opportunities to outdoor play. For example, they go on regular outings to the park and use the garden at a local playgroup. Children enjoy the responsibility of carrying out simple tasks. For instance, they eagerly help to sweep play dough off the floor and tidy away the resources after play. The childminder has a calm approach and uses consistent reminders to help children learn about rules and boundaries. Children's behaviour is good.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children become confident in their own abilities and develop skills to support their future learning and help prepare them for school. Children become very involved in activities and show good levels of perseverance, for instance, when fitting shapes into a shape sorter. Children learn to handle and manipulate objects, and develop good hand-to-eye coordination. For example, they mould and shape play dough, fit pieces into puzzles and make marks with pencils. Children use their imaginations as they play. For instance, they enjoyed pretending to be doctors as they played with dolls.
