This provision is good
The childminder provides effective support for her assistant. She ensures that he has the skills needed to support children's learning and well-being. She evaluates his practice well and provides effective guidance to continually improve the quality of teaching and learning for children. The childminder assesses children's progress accurately to identify their next steps in learning. She works closely with parents of new children to establish their starting points. This helps build relationships and plan for children's needs from their very first day. Children are happy and secure in the childminder's care. Children make good progress from their starting points and gain a solid foundation for their future learning. The childminder plans a broad variety of activities that inspires children to be creative and explore their design ideas. They enjoy constructing dens with large equipment, such as planks of wood, blocks and tyres. They learn to use tools safely, including

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder stores resources out of children's reach, which limits their freedom to access these for themselves and to make choices. At times, the childminder and her assistant are too quick to help children with some everyday tasks, such as dressing, rather than enabling their independence further.

The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and her assistant at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector and the childminder observed an activity and discussed it together. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including suitability checks, policies and children's records. The inspector took account of parents' views.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have a secure knowledge of how to keep children safe. They have a clear understanding of the process to follow should they need to report any concerns about a child's well-being. The childminder is committed to improving her professional skills and those of her assistant. They attend training regularly to extend their teaching skills and further improve outcomes for children. For example, recent training helped them to identify ways to enhance boys' learning. The childminder keeps parents well informed of their children's progress to support their learning at home and shares information effectively with the other settings that children attend. The childminder evaluates her provision carefully to ensure it meets children's needs. For example, she has identified where further improvements can be made to enhance children's outdoor play.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant are skilled in helping children's communication and language development. For example, they model correct pronunciation and provide effective dialogue and descriptive language as children play. Older children lead singing games confidently and younger children join in with familiar action songs and rhymes. The childminder and her assistant support children's literacy skills successfully. Children are keen to practise their mark making outdoors with chalks and wet paintbrushes, and talk knowledgeably about characters from their favourite stories.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her assistant are friendly, nurturing and positive role models. They successfully help children learn to manage their feelings and behaviour. Children are well mannered, develop good social skills and share happily with their friends. Some aspects of children's independence are well supported, such as encouraging children to solve problems they encounter during play. The childminder and her assistant support children's self-esteem and confidence effectively. Children respond well to the praise they receive for their success and have a strong sense of belonging.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children have enquiring minds and are keen to extend their understanding of the world. They learn about animal homes, including rabbits, bats and bees and care for plants they have grown from seeds. They explore the uses of technology in everyday life, such as finding answers to questions using the internet and using electronic tills. Children progress well with their mathematical understanding and learn to count, recognise numbers and use the language of money and time. They enjoy practising their physical skills, such as balancing on beams, climbing and using wheeled equipment.
