This provision is good

 The childminder uses high-quality interactions to help children make good progress in their communication skills, including those learning English as an additional language.  New children settle quickly and develop secure attachments with the childminder that support their personal development successfully.  The childminder has a very enthusiastic and energetic approach to teaching that enables children to enjoy a good range of stimulating learning experiences.  The childminder uses effective assessment procedures to plan for children's individual learning needs, to help them make good progress in preparation for their next stages.  The childminder supervises children closely and follows robust safety procedures to help keep them safe.  The childminder monitors and evaluates her practice well to make improvements and achieve good outcomes for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the best use of opportunities to guide parents further to support all aspects of children's learning at home.  At times, the childminder steps in too quickly to show children how to play, rather than allowing them to explore and decide how to use resources for themselves.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend partnerships with parents more, to guide them further to support their children's learning at home  give children the time they need to explore, to increase opportunities for them to choose how they play.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities indoors.  The inspector and the childminder observed and discussed an activity together.  The inspector talked to the childminder at appropriate points throughout the inspection.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records, evidence of the childminder's training and parent questionnaires.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements clear procedures to identify and respond to any concerns about a child's welfare. She has a strong commitment to keeping her knowledge up to date and has a good understanding of different aspects of safeguarding issues. The childminder welcomes feedback from parents to help her evaluate the effectiveness of her practice. She researches good practice routinely and makes steady improvements. For example, she makes better use of her observations of children's freely chosen play to identify and plan for their next stages in learning more accurately. The childminder develops some links with other settings that children attend, to support partnership working.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder models language effectively. For example, she introduces a wide range of relevant vocabulary and values children's home languages to support their understanding successfully. The childminder extends children's play experiences effectively overall and incorporates different areas of learning routinely to teach children a wide range of new skills. The childminder works closely with parents when children first start to find out about their individual needs and starting points in learning. She informs parents routinely about their children's progress and helps them to address gaps in development, particularly relating to personal and physical development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder develops secure relationships with all children and is a good role model to encourage positive behaviour. She helps children to become curious about different people and communities, to support their awareness of diversity. The childminder makes sure that young children feel comfortable throughout their time with her. She enables them to sleep, eat and drink to reflect their individual needs and routines, and she is responsive to their changing needs as their development progresses. The childminder encourages independence at levels appropriate for individual children, for example, she encourages toddlers to help with simple tasks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Babies and toddlers engage well in play experiences for most of the time. Babies make their own sounds when excited and toddlers develop a widening range of vocabulary. New children cooperate readily with routines, showing that they feel secure. Older children make good progress in preparation for school, such as developing the confidence to express their thoughts and preferences. All children experience a wide range of play opportunities to acquire the skills they need for their future lives.
